Sally Hansen presents Style & Color Trends for Spring 2016 by Madeline Poole
Dubai, UAE, February 9, 2016: “In this trend report you’ll find a refreshing burst of color and design inspired by the runways of Spring 2016. Negative space is at the forefront again seen in both clear and sheer shades. Baby blues, periwinkle, mints, rose blush tones, and chrome accents mingle with sporty 90’s flavor and a disco infusion. Inside you’ll find something for everyone. Enjoy”
Madeline Poole, Sally Hansen’s Global Color Ambassador
LOOK 1: SPORTY STRIPES
To find what is trending in nail colors, I often pull inspiration from clothing and accessory colors on the runway. I saw a great amount of lime green from designers like Nicole Miller, Versace, Vetements, Acne Studios, Marginal, Jeremy Scott. I like to incorporate trending color both on the nails and in the background and propping of these images hence the lime green background here.
Sally Hansen created thick and thin stripes at Tanya Taylor and Philip Lim. I also saw stripes on the nails at Tome, Ji Oh, and Marisa Webb’s shows and the trend of negative space prevailed in both nails and fashion across all designers. It is more of a staple than a trend at this point.
Sporty stripes were all the rage on the belts at Versace and Gucci, on the piping of wet suit-esque tops at JW Anderson, on leather coaches jackets at Alexander Wang, on leisure suits with track pants at Chloe, on the big billowing pants at Marc Jacobs, and head to toe at Prada. This offset the very feminine patterns and materials, the floral pattern overload, and flouncy blouses. A look like this - stripes on negative space, is both feminine with the painted tip and pretty pastel blues and tom-boy with the cut out of negative space giving a perfectly wearable balance that doesn't feel too fussy or too covered up for Spring.

BABY BLUE, MINT, AQUA
Clothing came in many shades of robin’s egg blue, mint, and pale aqua. There were shades of sheer dusty blue chiffon at Gucci, pale aqua at JW Andersen, bright turquoise and baby blue silk at Oscar De La Renta, denim blue tweed at Chanel, and minty patent leather at Rochas. In addition to shades of silk, we also saw tons of blue eyes on the runway from DVF to Phillip Lim and Karen Walker.
Usage of different width stripes is a nod to the 90’s and athletic inspired clothing.
LOOK 2: MESH
Mesh was one of the biggest trends of the season which is another reason while negative space in nails was highly popular. This diagonal striping of color was meant to represent the various cut outs and mesh ensembles found throughout SS16.
We saw mesh overlays at Louis Vuiton, Alexander McQueen, Versace, and Acne Studios, bright poncho like mesh pieces at Prada, Alexander Wang, and Proenza Schoeler, and colorful mesh sweaters at Sonia Rykiel and Valentino. There were also wide weave fishnet tights on the legs at Ashley Williams and Margiela and knee high cross hatched leather boots at Kenzo.
This nail features both negative space and a diagonal woven or mesh like pattern in a spring palette.
