Tribecog unveil intelligent food waste platform

Home >> Local News and Government

Tribecog announced today the launch of their compact food collection units in answer to the growing problem of food waste in hotels and restaurants.

It is an area of concern that is very topical as food waste is just an important issue as food security and according to a study by the United Nations 32.7% of food produced globally is wasted each year.

Even in the best-run kitchens there will be some food waste and although the priority is to reduce how much food is wasted in the property considering how best to dispose of unavoidable waste has always been a problem.

The Tribecog platform allows for an installation of an intelligent food collection unit that reduces the volume of the food waste by up to a factor of ten and at the same time de-odourises, de-vermins and de-noises the waste process. The container is then emptied every 21 days which greatly reduces the use and cost of haulage trucks on hotel premises.

By adopting this technology, other recyclable waste streams that would otherwise have been contaminated by the food waste are now more easily and more readily available to be recycled. The waste slurry can form the feedstock for anaerobic digestion and other processes, which create valuable power and horticultural-grade fertilisers.

The food collection unit system delivers a performance above regulation in BREEAM and LEED environmental scoring in the way this recyclable waste stream is managed and for the first time accurately measures the food waste being generated enabling managers to take action to reduce the amount of food waste being generated.

With a significant reduction in vehicle collections the Tribecog platform means fewer food waste miles travelled, lower collection costs, reduced CO2 emissions and data that will always help the customer deliver on its CSR and Environmental Policies.

And at a time when the cost of collections is rising due to the restriction on waste going to landfill sites the significant savings each month to the hotelier is one of the major attraction points.
