  • Students of British Curriculum School Deliver Outstanding Performance in A-Level and GCSE Results
  • Brighton College’s Results This Year Mark It Out As the Leading 3-18 School in UAE.

Abu Dhabi, UAE, August 29, 2016:  The latest A Level results of Brighton College Abu Dhabi, the first international school of Brighton College UK, have reflected the high academic standards set by the leading school in the United Kingdom. The name Brighton College is synonymous with outstanding academic achievement, and With 40% of grades at A* to A at A-Level, 72% of grades at A* to B and 20% of the year group achieving 3 A grades or above, Brighton College Abu Dhabi can claim to be the top British School in the Emirate.

Of particular note were the achievements of Isabel Wood (A*AA - Medicine, Bristol University), Katya Westerman (A*A*A*A*AB - Biochemistry, Imperial College), Elena Smith (A*AAB – Physics, Nottingham University), Ineke Lavers (A*AA - Liberal Arts and Science, Utretch) and Aaswath Balasubramanian (A*A*ABB - Engineering, Imperial College) who all achieved at least 3 A grades or A* each.

The achievement at GCSE is a further testament to the school’s success and sets it as the most academically successful 3-18 school in the Middle East. 97% of pupils achieved the all-important A*-C grades. 58% triumphed with five or more A* or A grades and in total, 88% of all GCSE grades were awarded A*-B. An incredible 37% were the highest possible grade of an A*.

Henning Fries, CEO, Bloom Education said: “Bloom Education is delighted at the performance of Brighton College Abu Dhabi in the latest A Level exams. I am particularly impressed with the exceptional results of our pupils in Arabic and Science, which evidence the important role Brighton College plays in inspiring the next generation of Scientists and Engineers in the UAE. These outstanding results are due to their hard work and dedication over the past several years. I wish all the students great success in their future careers.”

Henning added: “At Bloom Education, our aim is to help students achieve their maximum potential in a positive and stimulating environment through partnership with world-renowned educational institutions, such as Brighton College.”
Arabic was the most successful subject in the College with over 80% A* grades at GCSE. This was closely followed by the Sciences in which 9 out of 10 grades were graded A* or A.

Alun Yorath, Head Master, Brighton College Abu Dhabi, commented: “While all pupils’ successes are to be celebrated, an exceptional 1 in 6 pupils managed to achieve straight A* and A grades, with the highest achieving pupil, Artemis-Marie Prevot, securing an astonishing 12A*s in total.”

Yorath added: “Whilst these results represent the best-in-class academic achievement in Abu Dhabi, the College takes most pride in the ‘value added’ offered to the pupils. This is because what really counts is how each pupil has performed with respect to their own potential. Each pupil achieved on average 1.8 grades above what they had been predicted to achieve from their baseline academic assessment when they started on their courses. In some departments, it was over two grades above.”

Looking to build on this enviable success and in recognition of the focus on education in the National Agenda, UAE Vision 2021, the College is offering scholarships for entry at Year 9 and Year 12, of up to a 50% reduction in school fees. The new scholarship programme is launched in conjunction with an assisted places scheme in the hope that pupils from across Abu Dhabi will benefit from a Brighton College Abu Dhabi education, with its particular focus on provision for the more academically able pupils.
