Dubai to host the 34th International Society of Blood Transfusion Conference in September 2016.

Conference to take place for the first time in the Middle-East region.

Dubai, UAE, August 31, 2016:  Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai will host the 34th International society of Blood Transfusion ( ISBT) Conference.

The conference which will take place from September 3 to 8 at the World Trade Centre and it is the first time in ISBT International Congress will be hosted in the Middle East. 

Dr Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Centre and Chairman of the ISBT local Organizing Committee, said: “The conference presents an opportunity for physicians, technologists, nurses and other medical personnel in the region to participate in this important event. The Local Organizing Committee has worked closely with the ISBT Scientific Committee to develop a solid scientific programme that will support and cover the educational and developmental needs of a wide spectrum of transfusion professionals. Topics covered will include latest advances in the field of clinical transfusion practice, cellular therapies; laboratory aspects of transfusion; donors and donations; immunobiology; adverse effects of transfusion; reducing transfusion risks; management and organization of blood services including regulatory aspects.”

There will also be a medical exhibition alongside the congress. More than 73 international medical companies will participate in the exhibition.

More than 120 oral scientific presentations and 604 scientific papers will be accepted during the congress. The Dubai Blood Donation Center will also present its papers at the congress.
In order to encourage young scientists to find their way in scientific research and help them to improve their skills, the organizing committee has added a new program called, “Young Investigator.”

The congress will also have ISBT Awards in three categories. They include: For developing countries to recognize underdeveloped or developing countries that have put efforts to improve the safety of transfusion; for ISBT members who have played an important role in supporting ISBT mission and a Vox Sanquinis Best Paper Prize for an article published during 2015 in transfusion medicine through Vox Sanginius Journal .
