Sharjah Discovery Center hosts inaugural event featuring creative science workshops and dramatic live exhibitions.

Sharjah, UAE, September 26, 2016:  The world of science was brought to life today as the very first Kids got Talent Festival opened at Sharjah Discovery Centre.

Running from today until Friday, the Festival features a wide range of entertaining workshops and exhibitions designed to boost scientific knowledge and creativity among children. Highlights include laser cutting, 3D printing and an introduction to hologram technology, as well as dramatic live experiments.

The Festival is happening in participation with Sharjah Police, the Ministry of Education, Fab Lab UAE, Police General Headquarters of Dubai, Police General Headquarters of Ajman, Emirates Scientific Club, Aufuq Alebda Learning Center, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, and Sharjah Youth.

Hundreds of children discovered the scientific genius within them on today’s first day, which featured experiments with light and shapes, an introduction to engineering, and workshops on carpentry.

Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Department, which is holding the event in cooperation with such organisations as the Ministry of Education and the Emirates Science Club, said the Festival aims to develop a culture of scientific understanding among young people in the UAE.

“Our main aim is to make science fun – to show children how science is all around us and affects our lives on a daily basis,” said Ms Ataya.

“The Festival creates a special chance to discover children’s talents and abilities. It aims to support and enhance their skills and encourage creativity, developing their sense of innovation, scientific research and knowledge, spreading scientific culture, and creating a generation that is able to build the future by making use of technology and creative work.

“What better location to host this event than Sharjah Discovery Centre, which fully embraces the Festival and believes in the importance of bringing out the talents of our children from all age groups to one day serve the country and its people.”

The Talents and Creations Festival is made up of two components – a range of workshops led by prominent UAE organisations, and a series of exhibitions displaying the work of school children.

Sharjah Police will participate in workshops such as the mobile library, scorpion rescue motorbike, light jacket, solve the crime, and the little expert.

The workshops also include demonstrations by Dubai Police on how sensors can be used to detect the presence of water, while members of Ajman Police are revealing the world of 4D hologram technology. Fab Lab UAE are teaching children about the potential of laser cutting and 3D printing.

Other workshops cover ingenious experiments with electronics and light, while young visitors are being guided on how to be creative with engineering projects and scientific research. There are also fun games designed to boost mathematical problem solving and memory retention. Meanwhile, in the States of Matter workshop, children are learning about the movement of molecules, and there is more than meets the eye in the optical illusion experiments.

Visitors will get a great chance to see school students’ innovative science projects.

“The Festival is open to all members of the public as a great chance to learn something new about science and technology,” said Ms Ataya. “We’ve had a great first day and are looking forward to welcoming many more children and parents throughout the week.”
