Entries of Ahmed Bu Dahoum Al Muhairi and Mubarak Rashid Saeed Al Kindi clocked fastest times

DUBAI, 8th January 2017:  Junior falconers, some of them just below three years old, took center stage in the Fazza Championship for Falconry Al Tilwah organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC) in Dubai on Saturday 7th January.

The young stars displayed great enthusiasm and adhered to the spirit of competition to assure their elders that the future of this traditional heritage sport of falconry would continue for generations to come.

The largest and most popular among the series of falconry championships, the Fazza Championship for Falconry – Tilwah, will continue until 12th January in the dedicated site in Ruwayyah area (Exit 55 off Emirates Road) with the participation of elite contenders in various categories and groups.

Ahmed Bu Dahoum Al Muhairi’s falcon clocked the fastest time 19.212 seconds on the sixth morning of competition in the Jeer Tabaa category while Mubarak Rashid Saeed Al Kindi’s “Shamma” recorded the best winning time of 20.896 in the Jeer Wahish in the juniors’ category.

Ms. Suad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at HHC, was amazed to see how the juniors have improved in the sport of falconry within a span of four years.

“When we started this competition for juniors in 2013, the aim was to encourage children to follow the footsteps of their forefathers to preserve the heritage of the UAE. We want to promote this heritage and culture among the young children as it comes under the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, to do a championship for the juniors,” she said.

“It has been a resounding success from the first year. We were overwhelmed by the huge number of participants. For the first time this year, we introduced the procedure where when a child enters the area where they let go of the bird, he goes alone without his parents. I have seen their progress when they were three or four years old and their improvement has surprised me. They even adhere to the rules more strictly than adults. We have decide to grade them according to performance because these children are the future,” she added.
