World Future Energy Summit, ADNEC, Booth No. A401, Hall 5

  • Showcasing solutions that empower energy industries in Middle East
  • Regional CEO to address company’s CO2-neutral program in panel discussion
  • Key topics include transformation of distribution grids, hydrogen storage

Dubai, UAE, January 11, 2017:  Siemens will provide a glimpse into the digital future through interactive displays from the company’s technology portfolio next week at the 10th edition of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Visitors will have the chance to experience Siemens’ innovative digital solutions, aimed at empowering energy industries to achieve efficiency, productivity and reliability gains. The company will demonstrate its digital capabilities through the microgrid table and various augmented reality displays. The microgrid table enables visitors to digitally model an energy system that integrates power generated from renewables and traditional sources of energy without sacrificing grid stability. Maintaining stability is increasingly important in today’s energy mix, which features a growing share of renewables and where it is often necessary to compensate for fluctuations in power supply. WFES is held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) January 16-19.

The annual conference will also see Siemens executives participating in panel discussions around different topics. On January 17th, Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens Middle East and UAE, will shed light on the company’s de-carbonization strategy during a panel entitled ‘Effective government and business strategies for implementing the Paris Climate Agreement’. Siemens was one of the first major industrial companies that pledged to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2030, while halving it by 2020 already.

On the same day, Thomas Fuchs, senior expert and project leader, Energy Solutions (R&D), Siemens AG, will partake in the ‘GCC water and wastewater strategies’ panel discussion, highlighting innovative thermal water treatment solutions. Stefan Niessen, Technology Field Leader, Siemens AG, will address the transformation of distribution grids caused by integrating renewable sources of energy during the ‘Planning for energy security’ panel on January 18th. Manfred Waidhas, Head of Technology @Innovation (Hydrogen Storage), Siemens AG, will deliver a Techtalk on the increasing importance of hydrogen as a large scale solution for energy storage.

“Siemens is committed to enhancing business and society by connecting the physical and virtual worlds, and we look forward to showcasing the benefits of digitalization in driving efficiency and sustainability,” said Siersdorfer. “As the world grapples with climate change challenges, we are eager to discuss the responsibility that companies have towards de-carbonization, as well as our own target to become net carbon neutral by 2030.”

To achieve its de-carbonization plan, Siemens is focusing on four different levers: energy efficiency, decentralized energy systems, intelligent e-mobility solutions and the purchasing of clean electricity. Siemens invests €100 million in improving the energy efficiency of its own buildings and production facilities with expected annual savings of about €20 million from 2020 onwards. One year after the launch of its CO2-neutral program, Siemens is already making significant advances in reducing its CO2 footprint. The company was able to cut its CO2 emissions from 2.2 million tons in fiscal 2014 to 1.7 million tons in fiscal 2016.

Siemens has been a long-term technology partner to the region. In the UAE, Siemens turbines account for 40 percent of the country’s power generation capacity. In Dubai, the company has been supplying the emirate with power solutions since 1992, including technology for the protection and automation of its power infrastructure for the digital age.
