Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 18 January 2017:  InSinkErator®, a business unit of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), the inventor and the world's largest manufacturer of food waste disposers for home and commercial use, opened doors to the first dedicated training centre for the Middle East & Africa region. The training centre is located at the Emerson headquarters in Jebel Ali Free Zone South, Dubai.

Due to a growing demand for environment-friendly waste disposal solutions, and aligned with UAE’s Vision 2021 to build a sustainable environment and further enhance related infrastructures, the training centre is aimed at highlighting the need for food wastage solutions on both residential and commercial scales.

Mohamed Karam, Senior Business Development Manager, for InSinkErator® Middle East said: “At InSinkErator®, we are continually striving to ensure that our partners and internal teams are fully equipped with the hands-on experience required to better address our customers’ waste disposal needs, as well as understand the region’s sustainability goals. The launch of the training centre is a step towards offering an aligned perspective to all partners and employees when it comes to topic of sustainable food waste disposal, and how our range of products cater to that growing need.”

Training sessions will be conducted regularly with partners as well as members of the unit’s MEA regional sales team, and will include access to regional food wastage insights, hands-on product demonstrations, as well as regular updates from ongoing research and new product development.

Sustainability is currently a subject of significance, and is on the agenda across the region. Governments, along with industry partners, are working towards creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.

In 2016, the Emirates Environmental Group revealed that up to US$4 billion worth of food is dumped at landfills each year – which comes from residences and eateries – and this figure is only set to dramatically increase in the next few years. According to findings released by Frost & Sullivan, the total waste generated in the GCC is expected to increase from 94 million MT in 2015 to as high as 120 million MT per annum by 2020.

“The Middle East & Africa training centre will encourage two-way dialogue about sustainable waste management in the region that will in turn support in research and development,” added Karam.
