Introducing the new centre to the Abu Dhabi maritime sector

Abu Dhabi, UAE, January 18, 2017:  The Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC) hosted the first of its series of 2017 events in the UAE Capital, Abu Dhabi to further promote its services to local maritime stakeholders. Taking place on Wednesday January 18 at Jumeirah Etihad Towers, the event featured a panel of key speakers from EMAC, including: Vice Chairman and Secretary General, Majid Bin Bashir; Captain Mohamed Juma al Shamisi, member of EMAC Board of Trustees and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports; Richard Briggs, member of EMAC Board of Trustees and partner at Hadef & Partners; and Edward Newitt, member of EMAC Board of Trustees and partner at Stephenson Harwood LLP.

With an audience of legal professionals and representatives from the maritime and oil and gas sector, the panelists introduced guests to the Centre’s mission and vision, its key services and facilities, and the value the Centre adds to the maritime industry.

As the first and only specialised maritime arbitration centre in the region, EMAC brings access to a world class standard of arbitration expertise serving the region and beyond.   Members in the EMAC network have a wide global reach and include highly respected arbitrators, mediators and experts who have extensive maritime specific and alternative dispute resolution experience.

EMAC was officially launched in Dubai in November 2016 as a direct response to the UAE’s growing maritime industry, which is evolving into one of the world’s most prominent maritime hubs.

Now open to members from across the world, EMAC offers an effective regional platform to settle maritime disputes quickly and efficiently, using arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, based on well-established rules.

“EMAC is committed to supporting the growth of the UAE’s maritime industry as we create an international centre of excellence for maritime arbitration, mediation and alternative dispute resolution,” says Mr. Majid Obaid Bin Bashir, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of EMAC. “We are proud to introduce EMAC’s package of services, facilities and resources to Abu Dhabi and to highlight the important role of arbitration for the maritime and oil and gas sectors.”
