SLC’s specialised training schedule aims to increase women’s fitness and their involvement in sports

Sharjah, 24 January 2017:  Whether preparing for your debut run or polishing yourself for victory at the upcoming edition of the Sharjah Ladies Run, this is a golden opportunity for ladies across the seven emirates from the age of 12 and above, to increase their stamina and performance. The Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) has charted a specialised training programme through the month of February, which aims to help participants be in their best possible physical state and ensure preparedness for the event scheduled to be held on 24 February 2017.

From Sunday through to Saturday (with a rest day on Friday), women will undertake 3 to 9 kilometre runs, do stretching and strength workouts, and partake in up to 60 minutes of cross-training and other endurance routines at Fitness 180, the Club’s fitness centre. Through the week, this carefully crafted fitness schedule will guide them access to a rigorous training routine and other high-end services.

Khawla Al Serkal, Director General of SLC, said: “With the successful completion of its first three editions, the Sharjah Ladies Run today is a key partner and essential contributor to supporting and developing women’s physical strength and involvement in sports, not just in Sharjah but throughout the UAE. SLC has been an active player in raising awareness about the importance of sports and healthy lifestyle for women of all ages. With this special training programme right before the run every year, we aim to promote among women the art of healthy living and the importance of active lifestyles irrespective of periodic sporting events.”

“SLC has developed a clear and far-reaching strategy to promote women’s health, with the Sharjah Ladies Run being just one of its many activities organised throughout the year,” she added.

Those who are interested in participating in the Run can register online at http://www.slc.ae/register-in-sharjah-ladies-run/. The event is open to women, and girls above 12 years of age. A team of female paramedics will be present during the run to provide medical attention and ensure the safety of participants.

The event sponsors include a number of public and private organisations, namely Sharjah Environment Company Bee’ah (Gold Sponsor), Sharjah Sports Council (Silver Sponsor), and Skyline University College and Monviso Water (Support Sponsors).

The first edition of the race won the Fitness Event of the Year award at the Fit Awards 2014, which recognised the quality of and philosophy behind the event.

Comprising a 5km and 10km race, the event will take place next to the Skyline University at Sharjah University City on 24 February 2017, from 6pm to 9pm.

Established in 1982, SLC is a subsidiary of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
