  • A new survey revealed UAE residents feel more anxious about undergoing a CT scan than any other routine health check1
  • Unique mobile workflow of Siemens Healthineers’ Somatom go. CT scanners allows medical staff to dispel their patients’ worries and to care for them during the whole process

Dubai, UAE, January 31, 2017:  Global medical technology business, Siemens Healthineers, introduced the world’s first mobile operative CT scanner to the Middle East at the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress today. The Somatom go. reduces patient discomfort during CT scans, as new survey findings reveal 48% of UAE residents feel anxious about a CT scan when facing a health issue1. Involving more than 1,000 people from across the UAE, the survey shows people,  find full body scans more intimidating than other routine tests like X-Rays (11%), blood pressure checks (6%) and blood tests (28%).

Speaking at Arab Health, Kay Zwingenberger, Managing Director Middle East and Africa, Siemens Healthineers, said: “Patients, especially young children, are often frightened after being prescribed a CT scan for further investigation. With the Somatom go., healthcare professionals are able to stay with their patients each step of the way helping to ease their fear and improve the quality of care. With CT scanners commonly used across the globe each day, the Somatom go. is a groundbreaking technology that will benefit patients massively.”

“This is the first time healthcare professionals in the region will have access to highly complex scanning technology that can be simply controlled via a tablet. The Somatom go. platform not only provides highly advanced scans, but also makes the experience more comfortable for the patient”, he added.
The Somatom go. platform was developed together with users, ranging from radiologists, radiology assistants, CFOs, patients, and referring physicians from a variety of countries. The result offers high quality standards and responds to the current needs for efficient workflows, and to clinical and financial requirements.

The automated and standardized equipment, comprises two scanner variants, the ‘Somatom go.Now’ and ‘Somatom go.Up’. The standardization of the equipment also negates the need to repeat scans meaning decreased waiting times and workloads. In addition, the scanners’ automated post processing allows staff with a basic level of training to carry out examinations, required particularly during peak times and emergencies.

Siemens Healthineers offers medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and advanced medical services, consulting and healthcare IT services in the region. With a new strategic direction, Siemens Healthineers aims to enable healthcare providers in the region to meet their current challenges and to excel in their respective environments. Through products and solutions designed to increase efficiency and to reduce costs, Siemens Healthineers is setting new trends in healthcare together with its customers – working under the motto “Let’s shape the future of healthcare together”.

Siemens Healthineers Academy aims to lead the way in healthcare education
Alongside several medical imaging equipment on display; ranging from X-ray machines and MRI scanners to Ultrasound units, the business will also present its recently introduced Siemens Healthineers Academy which aims to lead the way in healthcare education. The Academy offers CME/CPD accredited courses which have been designed together with renowned hospitals and academic institutions. These courses assist healthcare professionals in ensuring improved patient care to the highest, international standards and achieve higher confidence in diagnosis.

Reinforcing the strategic partnership, Siemens Healthineers previews its latest innovation in laboratory automation, the game-changing AtellicaTM Solution, at the Ministry of Health booth. The solution will be showcased once again at the Siemens Healthineers booth at next week’s Medlab exhibition and congress.
