  • TKD Lingerie celebrates fifth birthday with five year trend retrospective

Dubai, UAE, March 22, 2017:  TKD Lingerie, the D-K cup expert, has revealed how the lingerie design has changed over the past five years since its inception in 2012.

The lingerie retailer has seen two distinct and opposing trends emerge over the past five years. There has been a clear ‘50 Shades of Grey’ effect, with a steep increase in demand for more provocative and playful styles. Scantilly, a new raunchy range launched by Curvy Kate in 2015, has seen sales soar along in the UAE with double digit growth year-on-year.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, lingerie and nightwear has embraced the ethos ‘More is More’. The once ubiquitous g-string has all but vanished from lingerie drawers, being replaced by the more covered brazillian brief as the new sexy option. High waisted pants have also had a resurgence, although not as strongly in the UAE as in European markets, which can be seen as a reflection of the weather. In nightwear, slinky negligĂ©es have been replaced by cool and comfy cotton loungewear.

The influence of the weather can also be seen in colour preferences, with neons and brights remaining popular throughout the seasons in both Dubai and Bahrain.

While there are definite patterns emerging when reviewing sales statistics over the past five years, there are also a few constants. The top selling bras for 2016, 2015 and 2014 were all different versions of the Jasmine balconnet bra from Panache, while the previous two years were also topped by uplifting balconnet bras. Three out of the past five years have featured black and white or black and soft pink patterns in the top position, while 2016 saw a softer baby blue and pink floral pattern take the lead.

Kate Kikano, owner of TKD Lingerie, said: “What we can learn from the past five years is that whilst trends change and preferences for patterns and colours are largely in line with catwalk fashions adjusted for our climate, women consistently choose high quality and figure flattering lift and support.”

TKD Lingerie is celebrating its birthday with an in-store event open to the public with nibbles, massages, complimentary fittings, and fun surprises 12:00 – 19:00 on the 22 March 2017.
