Empower highlights the importance of district cooling to real estate developers ahead of the upcoming Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2017

Dubai, UAE, April 17 2017:  Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), world’s largest district cooling services provider, underlined the importance of district cooling as an environment-friendly alternative to conventionalair-conditioning. The company emphasised the importance of district cooling to real estate developers ahead of the upcoming Cityscape Abu Dhabi2017, one of the largest and most significant real estate events, which will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC)from April18th to 20th 2017.

'District cooling is the need of the hour. It paves the way for economic advancements. The UAE is making remarkable advancements in real estate; as such adopting district cooling is the way forward,” saidH.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

Empower announced recently a saving of 1000 MW of electricity, which is equal to AED 2.6 billion, as a result of using its district cooling services in Dubai in 2016.

A report by Transparency Market Research Report stated that the global market for district cooling is likely to expand at a 5.10 per cent CAGR during the period from 2015 to 2024, surging from a value of US$11.1 billion in 2015 to US$17.3 billion by the end of the forecast period. The increasing focus on energy saving and the burgeoning demand for BREEAM and LEED-certified buildings are expected to fuel the district cooling sector.According to the study, the Middle East and Africa, North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe are the key regional markets for district cooling across the world. 

'The significant rise in the real estate sector fueled by the growing populationwill increase the district cooling needs. This has driven the growth of the district cooling market in the GCC countries. It is important that district cooling be adopted as a superior alternative to conventional air conditioning as it helps reduce energy consumption and costs to both customers and governments alike, while also protecting the environment by cutting carbon dioxide emissions,”added Bin Shafar.

“District coolingif employed properly can save around 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in fuel. We hope and are positive that in the upcoming Cityscape Abu Dhabi exhibition,real estate developers will understand the importance of district cooling and forge agreements and deals that boost the usage and adoption of this technology,” concluded Bin Shafar.
