Dubai Electronic Security Center partners with Comae Technologies to Deliver OPCDE

OPCDE is the first of its kind cyber security event in the Middle-East  

Students at OPCDE will demonstrate their technical ability as part of “The UAE National Cyber Security Capture The Flag!” Competition 

18 April 2017 - Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC), a Dubai government entity whose mission is to make Dubai the safest electronic city in the world, entered in strategic partnership with award-winning UAE-based cyber security start-up, Comae Technologies to support them to deliver OPCDE, the first of its kind cyber security event in the Middle-East. The exclusive cyber security conference will take place on April 26-27th, 2017 at the futuristic Dubai Future Accelerator Space, in the Emirates Towers.

This conference brings together security researchers and professionals from the public and private sectors with current pioneering computer security experts and specialists for two days of in-depth discussions and presentations on the latest advancement on the state of art of cyber security.

OPCDE is a purely technical meeting with more than 20 highly distinguished international speakers presenting their research from, leading companies such as Intel, Fastly, Comae, ISC2, FIRST, Mandiant/FireEye, Veracode, NSS Labs, Trend Micro (Zero Days Initiative), root9B, and much more.

The conference counts among its sponsors noon, Dell Secureworks, Trend Micro & Zero Day Initiative in order to fill the need for cyber security professionals to better understand the security risks, information infrastructures by potential threats. Attendees will be amongst some of the greatest minds in the industry.
 
Parallel to this event on 27th April, there is a unique opportunity for UAE based students to learn more and shine in a competition entitled “The UAE National Cyber Security Capture The Flag!”. This one-day cyber security competition, co-organized between Comae & CyberTalents, where participants demonstrate their technical ability at 1776 space. 
 
The competition will increase the educational and professional development of cyber security students in the region by simulating real life activities, networking, and collaboration, in addition to, supporting cyber security educational programs of academic institutions, create career opportunities and strengthen creative efforts to increase the number of graduates in this field.
 
UAE National Cyber Security CTF winners are eligible to compete in regional and international CTFs representing UAE. The CTF will be a Jeopardy Style CTF where every team will have a list of challenges in different categories such as Reverse Engineering, Web Security, Digital Forensics, Network Security and others. For every problem solved, the team will get a certain amount of points depending on the difficulty of the challenge. The team who gets the highest score at the end of the day will be the winning team. The teams will not only be recognized as the UAE top national security talents but they will also be awarded by one of the two winning sponsored cash prizes $5000 USD by Dell Secureworks and $2000 USD rising star cash prize by noon.
 
In this regards, H.E Yousuf Al Shaibani, DESC CEO, stressed on the importance of having and supporting such conferences where top security professionals are participating. Al Shaibani added: “DESC encourages all the security professionals and experts in the government and private sectors around the world to participate and benefit from this unique opportunity. It will also be beneficial to our students in the UAE to attend and listen to the security professionals in their field”.
