Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization Signs MOU with Global Safety Science Firm UL

Dubai, 7 May 2017: - The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with global safety science firm UL

The agreement signifies cooperation in the areas of standardization, measurement, conformity evaluation, testing, management systems and other relevant fields, and is aimed towards enhancing product quality, leading to bolstering the economic ties between Jordan, the UAE - UL’s Middle East base and the US where the firm has its Headquarters.

The MOU was signed by Dr Haydar AlZaben, the Director General of JSMO and Mr. Hamid Syed, the UL, Vice President & GM for UL Middle East. The signing ceremony took place in Amman at JSMO premises and was attended by the Economic Counselor from the US Embassy in Amman and representatives from UL Middle East and JSMO.

Dr. Haydar AlZaben said: 'JSMO was established to protect the rights, health and safety of the citizens and the environment. Through collaboration with key strategic partners it ensures the best international practices are implemented and maintained thereby strengthening the public confidence in safety of products and services.

“Our two forward-thinking organizations will be working together to further develop the Standardization, Certification, Testing, Inspection and Market Surveillance systems of JSMO, while also developing products safety standards and promoting the use of UL Standards in Jordan, so as to help manufacturers gain increased knowledge on product safety.

Hamid Syed said: “Today is a significant step forward for both UL in the region and the JSMO as it will allow us to offer our expert guidance to the organization as it continues its fantastic work. We’re looking forward to working with them on their immediate priority projects and believe this is just the beginning of a long and valuable relationship as we do our small part to help the Jordanian authorities build a sustainable, safe and bright future for its people.”

UL, which has GCC bases in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, works with various authorities in the MENA region and signed a similar MOU with The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) in 2014.
