Slovenian aiming for strong GC performance at home race

United Arab Emirates. Tuesday, 13 June 2017: UAE Team Emirates’ Jan Polanc will look for a top place in the General Classification at the 24th  Tour of Slovenia which starts on Thursday. The 2017 Slovenian Time Trial Champion will lead UAE Team Emirates at his home race which takes place over four days ending on Sunday.

The UAE Team Emirates’ rider said: “At the end of the Giro d'Italia I was very tired, however I continued training because I didn’t want to miss racing in my home country. I am in good form at the moment and aiming for the General Classification top ten. It's difficult to determine how that will go because everything will depend on stage three, with the summit arrival. To do well you must have a good day and be careful to avoid any mistakes.”

Tour of Slovenia is the largest and most popular cycling race in Slovenia. The very first Tour of Slovenia was organized in May 1993, just one year after the Slovenian cycling organization became a member of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The Tour of Slovenia is in its 24th edition this year and has four different stages that are sure to provide diverse racing action. The race attracts the world’s best riders and teams to compete on picturesque Slovenian roads with landscapes varying from mountain to coastal scenes.

Commenting on the team’s upcoming participation in the race, UAE Team Emirates’ Sports Director Orlando Maini said: “Polanc will be our GC leader for this team. During the race he will be supported by Ravasi. Ferrari can be competitive in the sprints and we can also vary our strategy by giving our young riders -Ganna, Troia and Zurlo- the freedom to attack.”

Riding alongside Polanc at the Tour of Slovenia are Roberto Ferrari, Filippo Ganna, Edward Ravasi, Oliviero Troia and Federico Zurlo.
