DUBAI - June 21, 2017:  G4S UAE, the world’s leading integrated security solutions provider, supported the UAE Red Crescent - Dubai to serve a total of 50,000 Iftar meals to labourers at three Ramadan tents in Jebel Ali industrial area during the holy month of Ramadan.

The company has provided volunteers to serve free Iftar meals from the beginning of the holy month at the three big tents that were installed close to the labour accommodations in the Jebel Ali industrial area, where migrant workers make up the majority of the population.

Each tent served meals to more than 1000 people every day helped by volunteers from G4S and the UAE Red Crescent, Dubai. The initiative is part of G4S’ commitment to the UAE’s ‘Year of Giving’ initiative and to support the underprivileged people at a time when they need it the most. With this program G4S was a part of providing the comfort of a warm meal to the workers, who are away from home and their families during the holy month.

Speaking about the initiative, Ms. Alida Scholtz, CEO and MD of G4S, who also volunteered said, “Through this initiative we hoped to reach out to as many members of the labour community as we could. Each day meals are served to thousands of labourers throughout the holy month. Volunteers from G4S and the UAE Red Crescent - Dubai help serve the meals to fasting people at the tents. We selected the locations based on their population density.”

“G4S engages in numerous Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives every year and is committed to support those in need. The Red Crescent Ramadan tents are truly a blessing to the workers who have difficulty cooking or buying food during Ramadan”, she added.

Thousands of blue-collared workers of various nationalities visited the tents to end their fast with the food distributed on a daily basis. To ensure safety for all G4S also provided fifteen security guards to the Red Crescent Dubai to be stationed at 8 different Iftar tents across the city during the 30 days of Ramadan.  The workers enjoy getting together in these tents, not only for food but also for socializing in a cool safe environment.
