Focusing on Entrepreneurship among Skyline University Students

Focusing on Entrepreneurship among Skyline University Students

Home >> Education and Learning
Dubai, UAE, September 28, 2017:  Skyline University College (SUC) is setting the bar high for its students in the new academic year 2017-2018 by enforcing several changes in the university. Skyline Entrepreneurship and Innovation Club (SEIC) is an existing club at SUC established in 2013, which has continuously aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, training students to be business leaders, and connecting students to the industry. This year, SUC has added the SEIC Centre—a new facility in the campus where students can better showcase their business plans, grow their ideas, and upgrade their entrepreneurial skills. A seed fund of 50,000-100,000 is being allocated for every qualified and feasible business plan for the student to start the business venture.

The SEIC Centre will help budding entrepreneurs with business strategies and improve their skill in all areas of business with the full supervision and guidance of SUC faculty members and invited experts from the industry.

The SEIC is consists of a Chief Patron, Advisory Board, Corporate and Government Alliance and Partnerships, Faculty Mentor Team, and the SEIC Student Club body. The formation of the club also led to the construction of SUC Innovation Lab where students go to seek inspiration from different business leaders, innovators, and successful stories of big companies from around the world. The club has been conducting interuniversity business plan competitions over the years to serve as a platform for students from all over the country and the neighboring countries. These business plans and ideas are screened based on their feasibility and are given enough time to be polished. Industry leaders, CEOs, and experts have come to SUC to share their knowledge and give tips to SUC budding entrepreneurs through CEO Lecture Series.

Being one of the oldest private universities in the UAE that offers business education, promoting entrepreneurship and innovation among SUC students is the main focus this year, which is also evident in the past years. “We want our students to be creators of job rather than seekers after they graduate. The seed money we are allocating for the SEIC is only the beginning of our efforts to give them the proper training and real-life exposure as early as now to embark on their business startups. Aside from giving them the right exposures in the industry, we want to encourage our students to pursue their dreams and the SUC management supports them to make these dreams into reality,” SUC Chair of the Executive Council and Board Member, Mr. Nitin Anand stated.

The BBA and MBA programs offered at SUC have one thing in common—to nourish students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills that will be useful in the business industry. These business-related programs available for students to choose from are specializations in Finance, Marketing and Retail Management, International Business, Travel and Tourism Management, Marketing, Human Resources Management, E-Governance, and Strategic Management and Leadership.

Major improvements of the Sharjah campus also note the addition of the 2+2 and 3+1 Program with the recently approved and accredited Articulation Agreement of SUC and Canterbury Christ Church University, United Kingdom. This program will give students the opportunity to finish their bachelor’s degree in UK and vice versa. Canterbury Christ Church is included in the Top 50 Best Ranked UK universities according to the Times Higher Education (THE) UK Student Experience Survey 2016. Being one of its kind in the UAE, SUC is expected to go beyond its reach with the commencement of this program this year.

CSR Activities
As the Zayed Giving Initiative (ZGI) has recently emphasized volunteerism among the youth of different nationalities, SUC has doubled its plan for more CSR activities in the Year of Giving as the academic year 2017-2018 is fast approaching. This includes a month-long celebration and community service works for Breast Cancer Awareness in October among other plans. These humanitarian works of SUC are aimed at surpassing each year’s achievements of giving back to the society and to continuously create an impact to the community as the value of caring for others is inculcated in every SUC student.
