UAE, October 8, 2017- The Ministry of Health and Prevention has formally unveiled the latest ‘Patient Education’ feature of the ‘Wareed’ healthcare system during its participation at GITEX Technology Week 2017, which began on October 8, 2017 at the Dubai Center World Trade. The newly launched feature aims to promote the concept of active patient participation and motivation,   giving them a better understanding of their health. H.E Awad Saghir Al Ketbi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services, shed light on the Ministry's efforts to fully optimize the benefits of modern health information systems to improve the quality of healthcare in the country and promote patient safety.  ‘Patient Education’ also supports the Ministry's strategy to put in place an advanced health infrastructure and implement globally accepted standards in infrastructure health management to provide comprehensive and integrated services delivered in innovative and sustainable ways.

He said: “GITEX offers an ideal opportunity to inform visitors of such innovative services, in addition to providing a platform to educate patients and build an accessible medical database to enhance the value of local healthcare system. These efforts are aligned with our goals to strategically plan relevant programs and strategies to improve community health, reduce health problems, and mitigate treatment costs.”

For her part, Mubaraka Ibrahim, Director, Health Information Systems Department, said that the new feature will allow doctors and healthcare providers to access comprehensive educational references to educate patients and provide medical advice. The content has been built to provide clear, readable, and targeted information to the UAE community to help patients better understand their health and treatment.

Mubaraka Ibrahim also explained that the ‘Patient Education’ system is based on clinical diagnosis and is designed to provide educational materials to patients. These materials are categorized according to specialties and provided medical services. Doctors can create and customize specific models to help patients with special health conditions.

She added that the system is available in multiple languages, while Arabic and English are only activated now, to meet the needs of various nationalities living in the region. The information is in an easy-to-read format supported by colored illustrations. ‘Patient Education’ encourages patients to better understand their health status. It also enables access to patient records via the ‘Wareed’ system which is essential in all their future medical consultations.
