Peugeot on the Podium at Rallye Du Maroc: Ready to Tackle Dakar 2018 After a Productive Experience in Morocco!
Dubai, UAE, October 15, 2017: The Peugeot 3008DKR drivers enjoyed a clean run to the finish of the Rallye du Maroc in Erfoud today, rounding off a successful event. They finished second and 10th overall, successfully completing their preparations for next year’s Dakar Rally. Sebastien Loeb/Daniel Elena led the event right up until the penultimate stage yesterday, when they were delayed by a mechanical issue with a damper. The same type of problem also affected Carlos Sainz, highlighting some areas of improvement for the Peugeot Sport engineers to work on before their South American odyssey in January.
- Sebastien Loeb/Daniel Elena ensured a safe finish with their Peugeot 3008DKR today and eventually set third-fastest time on SS6, despite being held back by dust and a double puncture at the finish. They ended up just seven minutes off the overall winner.
- Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz also finished the rally successfully, achieving their mission of getting back into the rhythm of racing after more than six months away from the competitive environment. The Spaniards were classified fourth on the final stage and in the top 10 overall.
- Team Peugeot Total was proud to support Peugeot Morocco's local market, and the PSA Group’s global presence in the Africa and Middle East region. On the same day that the two Peugeot 3008DKRs set off on their epic adventure, the brand new Peugeot Pick Up was launched with a mission to conquer Morocco. With car-like features matched to go-anywhere practicality, the Pick Up exudes ruggedness, thanks to a powerful 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine, a double cab, and a four-wheel drive option as well. Tested and approved by Peugeot's ‘Dream Team’!

Team Manager Peugeot Total
“We were pleased with how this rehearsal for the Dakar Rally went. It allowed our crews to run in representative conditions, put in the kilometres, and technically we were also able to identify a couple of issues that that we’ve still got time to put right before we go to Dakar. Because of some of the sporting hazards here, we stepped back a bit from the result. Anyway we were here to practice, gather data, and accumulate valuable experience. We got what we came for. We will keep working hard!
Let’s meet again in January.”
Sébastien LOEB, Team Peugeot Total driver
3rd on the stage, 2nd overall
“On the whole, the event went fine. Today we had a double puncture after the first timed section and ended the stage slowly, but that didn’t really change anything in the end. We tried to push hard and catch Nasser but I was slowed down by the dust from the cars in front, so there was nothing more we could do. Second is not bad, but I am very motivated to take my first overall victory in cross-country. We got some good experience here and learned a lot of things, and we’ve seen that we’re going to be up against some tough competition on the Dakar.”
Carlos SAINZ, Team Peugeot Total driver
4th on the stage, 10th overall
“The last stage wasn’t bad. The only problem was that we started from behind in the dust, because of our issues yesterday. Afterwards it was only a positive experience being here. We learned a lot of things and it was a good preparation for the Dakar. With Lucas, were are very happy with this experience we gained. I would like to say thank you to the Peugeot Sport team for their hard work. We are eager to start the Dakar Rally in January and to drive the brand new Peugeot 3008DKR Maxi.”
