Directives by Emirates Post Group to deal with only licensed courier companies to diminish illegal postal services within UAE

Dubai, UAE, October 17, 2017:  Emirates Post Group has directed individuals and companies not to deal with persons and unauthorized companies to perform courier activities, and instructed companies to abide by laws and regulations to avoid penalties stipulated in Federal Law No. 3/2013. The Group has recently identified such companies which violations the laws of courier services.

Article 27 of the Federal Law No. 3/2013 provides for that:
Any person committing any of the following acts must be punished by imprisonment for a period of not less than one year and not more than two years, and a fine of not less than ten thousand dirhams and not more than one hundred thousand dirhams or either penalty:
(A) Providing any courier service within the work scope of Group or its subsidiaries without obtaining the required license. 
(B) Couriering any letters, parcels or items in the state or acting as courier mediator for profit without prior authorization by Group.

Emirates Post Group has the power of to issue licenses to private companies to practice courier services whether internal and international pursuant to Article (7) of the same law, and to organize and supervise courier, and suspend and revoke such licenses in accordance with the terms and conditions.

Mr. Sultan Al Midfa, acting executive director of Courier Licensing Department said: 'Practicing courier activities without obtaining prior license from Group and economic departments in the state is illegal and subject to legal accountability and fines. Anyone wishing to carry out courier activities must apply to Licensing Department of Group to obtain the required license after paying prescribed fees.
