  • Over 250 regional experts attended the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Inspector Training Program aimed at increasing awareness of the CAP checklists and standards and their impact on ensuring quality patient care
  • National Reference Laboratory (NRL) reinforces its commitment to raise laboratory quality excellence in the region through its partnership with the CAP
Abu Dhabi, 10 December, 2017:  National Reference Laboratory (NRL), part of Mubadala’s network of world-class healthcare providers, recently organized an Inspector Training Program in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The faculty included members of the CAP leadership from the USA, as well as global and local experts who are highly experienced with the quality accreditation process. Approximately 250 professionals attended the program designed to raise awareness of the CAP checklists and their impact on quality patient care.

Though the laboratory is rarely visible to the patient, around 70 percent of medical decisions are influenced by laboratory tests. Laboratory-specific quality accreditations are the integral element for securing quality practices, which ensure improved patients outcomes by providing high quality of services and reducing the unnecessary costs in the industry.

Commenting on the recent Inspector’s Training Program, Abdul Hamid Oubeisi, CEO of NRL, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to co-organize this training with the CAP, during which we witnessed great enthusiasm and energy from the participants during this event. The program, which saw the participation of leading experts from the CAP, our partner LabCorp, and NRL, provided a platform to share our knowledge and experience with the regional medical community, aligned with our mission to improve the standards of laboratory excellence and patient care.”

“By co-organizing a CAP inspectors training program, NRL is supporting CAP in raising awareness of CAP checklists and standards and their impact on quality patient care. We were honored to see the impressive attendance and the interest of the participants to learn about the standards. We are looking forward to organizing additional training programs in the Middle East region in partnership with NRL” said Dr. Bharati Jhavieri, Chair of the Council on Accreditation of the CAP.

Dr. Rania Seliem, Laboratory Director of DHA’s Rashid Hospital, and an attendee of the Inspector’s Training Program, stated: “My team and I found this training to be a valuable experience, which provided participants with an insightful perspective of the CAP standards. Through interactive sessions and engaging with global and local experts, we were able to significantly improve our understanding of the standards requirements and the methods of implementing them through our work.”

As the largest CAP-accredited laboratory network in the Middle East, NRL’s scientific expertise, technological capabilities and quality infrastructure has allowed it to become a leader in laboratory medicine. With a mission of better serving patients across the region, NRL has been committed to securing accreditation and adopting international standards of quality and operations.

CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized as a leading accreditation program given the diversity of laboratories it inspects, and its peer-based inspection approach which provides regulatory requirements and educational mentoring from respected pathologists and laboratory professionals. The CAP continues to increase its international purview and NRL has partnered with them in the UAE in this endeavor.
