Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 21 April 2018:  Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, QCC, the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, is pleased to announce that the Market Surveillance Division has become an accredited international inspection body in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17020-2012.

This is a major step for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as it joins major international institutions dedicated to applying the highest quality standards on products and maintaining market control.

His Excellency Dr. Helal Al Kaabi, Secretary General of QCC, received the certificate on behalf of the council from Her Excellency Amina Ahmed Mohammed, Executive Director of the Emirates International Accreditation Center (EIAC).

The certification were awarded after a certified team from the Emirates International Accreditation Center (EIAC) conducted two phases external audit on QCC’s Market Surveillance Division.

The first phase examined the adopted quality system and relevant inspection procedures that were established and implemented by division’s management to fulfill the requirements of the international standard and to be in harmonization with best international best practices in the sector.

The second phase of the audit involved conducting inspection visits to QCC’s Verification Services Bureau, along with field visits with inspectors to verify the full implementation of the relevant technical procedures applied to the inspection and verification services for gold, Oud and other commercially used scales, in addition to fuel pumps’ meters in service stations throughout the Emirates.

Sultan Al Mehairi, Director of Information Service and Engagement at QCC commented: “We are proud that the Council has received type “A“ International Accreditation as per ISO 17020-2012.

This is a responsibility that we look forward to carrying out to the fullest extent.

The accreditation contributes to the Council's vision of improving our quality infrastructure and complements the emirate's ability to excel at a global level while achieving the Council's mission to lead, facilitate and develop an infrastructure in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to promote the culture of quality, industrial development, competitiveness and product safety.”

Eng. Yousef Ahmed Aljasmi, Head of Inspection Bodies Accreditation Section at EIAC, said: QCC is the first Government entity in Abu Dhabi that is accredited with the International Standard ISO/IEC 17020:2012.

This accreditation for inspection of fuel pumps used in service stations is considered the first of its kind in the fields of accreditation provided by EIAC, which in turn reflects the commitment of the Council to the Emirate's leadership in achieving the vision of the UAE Vision 2021.

The ISO / IEC 17020-2012 certification honors the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council's efforts to continue working to raise its efficiency in order to improve the quality of UAE’s products and enhance its competitive capabilities while developing a quality system to serve the national economy and boost the UAE’s world ranking.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to enable regulators to raise the quality of both exports and locally traded products, and to promote a culture of quality and safety of products by enabling regulators to develop and implement product safety, legal standards and conformity programs.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council also sets guidelines and standards to verify that products manufactured and traded in the Emirate conform to the highest standards.
