UAE, April 24, 2018 - The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) recently presented its success story to a group of visiting high-level Ethiopian delegates. The delegation was briefed on the best practices adopted by the Emirate of Dubai in developing legislation that is capable of addressing the present needs and looking ahead to future challenges. H.E. Mohammed Jumaa Al Suwaidi, SLC Assistant Secretary General, received the delegation and discussed means of strengthening strategic cooperation in the legislative and legal fields, in line with the SLC objectives relating to legislative and legal knowledge exchange and dissemination at the regional and international level.

Al Suwaidi underscored the importance of building fruitful relationships with legislative and legal entities in Ethiopia, demonstrating the SLC's commitment to strengthening international cooperation as key to opening new vistas for the development of the Dubai legislative system. These efforts are in harmony with the objectives of Dubai Plan 2021 which has as its ultimate goal catapulting Dubai to the forefront and among the most advanced nations in the world.

Al Suwaidi reaffirmed that the SLC is committed to reinforcing bridges of communication with regional and international legislative entities, saying: “The Ethiopian delegation’s visit to the SLC has presented an ideal opportunity to highlight the major leaps taken by Dubai in developing and providing viable and balanced government legislation, which is capable of pushing forward its comprehensive development drive.”

Al Suwaidi added: “The Ethiopian delegation’s visit has been an ideal platform for us to share the SLC legislative knowledge and success story in supporting Dubai's development process through bolstering the legislative system and ensuring the proper implementation of legislation in accordance with international best practices in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai (May Allah protect him), who is keen on promoting the UAE noble values of justice and equality as key to building a wholesome society.”

The Ethiopian delegation also visited the Legislative Museum, which houses a unique and valuable collection of historical legislative documents that illustrate the evolution of the Dubai legislative system throughout a period of about five decades, highlighting major steps along the path towards legislative excellence in Dubai. The delegation lauded the efforts of the SLC General Secretariat for its success in collecting, preserving, and documenting the rich legislative heritage of Dubai and the UAE, in line with international standards and best practices.

The visit was also an important opportunity to showcase the original drafts of the earliest legislation issued by Their Highnesses the Rulers of Dubai and Chairmen of the Executive Council, documented and preserved in cooperation with the National Archives, and which are made available to decision makers, researchers, academics and all members of the society.

Members of the visiting delegation included high-level Ethiopian public officials, headed by Ziman Tebeje, Deputy Head of Addis Ababa Public Grievance and Petition Office; Senayt Syum, Director of Addis Ababa Finance Directorate; and Kedir Abera, Deputy Consul General and Head of Business Promotion.
