Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has recently held a coordination meeting with Nakheel Marine Group to explore areas of common interest in the field of marinas, boats, waterways and sailing permits in order to provide an integrated framework to ensure compliance with the highest maritime safety standards and international best practices that would enhance competitive advantages of the maritime sector globally and regionally and strengthen Dubai’s status as a leading international maritime center. The meeting was chaired by Amer Ali, Executive Director of Dubai Maritime City Authority, and Ali Saeed Bin Thalith, General Manager of Nakheel Marine Group.

The meeting discussed procedures for regulating private and public marinas, boats and waterways in Dubai, as well as the importance of safe operations, environmental requirements and safety standards to be met by marinas, in addition to facilitating procedures of boats registration. The two parties also discussed cooperation in taking the necessary procedures to regulate the berths of boats, and allocating berths for sailing boats, as well as identifying and responding to the challenges in the maritime sector to serve the efforts of integration of operational efficiency, maritime safety and environmental security in the waterways of the emirate.

Amer Ali, Executive Director of Dubai Maritime City Authority, underscored the importance of the meeting as a strategic platform for strengthening strategical cooperation with Nakheel Marine Group, stating that the meeting is a major step forward to build a competitive, renewed and sustainable maritime cluster that would increase economic diversification and meet the needs of the future in the emirate.  

He said: “We coordinate, cooperate and join hands with our strategic partners from the public and private sectors, in line with directions of our wise leadership, which is keen to promote fruitful partnership as one of the most important indicators of economic growth in the UAE. The meeting is a great move in this direction, which discussed the latest local and international developments and reviewed the prospects in the field of regulating marinas, boats, waterways and maritime permits. We are taking into consideration the use of the available resources to achieve the desired goals in improving the performance, safety, efficiency and competitiveness of the components of the local maritime cluster, as well as developing an integrated, safe and attractive marine environment for regional and international investors, reflecting the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”
