The largest consumer cooperative announces its plans for the holy month of Ramadan, with price reductions on more than 15, 000 products, by allocating AED 75 Million towards Ramadan Promotion initiatives 

May 9, 2018 – Dubai, UAE:   Union Coop, the largest consumer cooperative in the UAE has always maintained its tradition of welcoming the holy month of ‘Ramadan’ with attractive discounts & promotion campaigns and social responsibility initiatives. The firm’s latest announcement comes of no surprise as Union Coop announces price reductions up-to 75 percent on more than 15,000 products, with a budget of AED 75 Million allocated towards several Ramadan Promotions. 

The much-anticipated announcement was made in the Press Conference held on 7th of May, Monday at Union Coop’s head office in Al Aweer. The conference was held in the presence of H.E. Khalid Humaid Bin Diban Al Falasi, CEO of Union Coop, Mr. Ahmad Hassan Alzaabi, Director – Consumer Protection Department at Dubai Economy, Mr. Yaqoob Al Balooshi, Fresh Category Trade Dept. Manager at Union Coop and a number of media representatives and Union Coop officials.

Talking to the Press about Union Coop’s Ramadan initiatives, Al Falasi said, “All our upcoming Ramadan campaigns and initiatives fall in line with our objective of spreading community happiness, which are part of Union Coop's continued efforts towards easing the burden on consumers, who get high-quality products/ commodities at competitive prices.”

9 Promotional Campaigns 

Stressing on the promotional campaigns, Al Falasi said, “Union Coop Ramadan plan includes 9 promotional campaigns that will see the price reduction on more than 15, 000 Food and Non Food products, by 25 to 75 percent, whereas Fruits and Vegetables will see discount up-to 50 percent. We have included a wide variety of products to the mix, keeping in mind the diversity of population in our country.”

Uninterrupted Supply and 24 Hour Shopping Experience

Ensuring customers about undisturbed shopping experience and uninterrupted supply, AL Falasi said, “In order to ensure uninterrupted flow of commodities, we have deployed 24-hour Supplier delivery and special space arrangements to accommodate extra stock. Pre-booking of stocks from suppliers have also been considered to confirm ready availability. 

Our Union Coop branches at Umm Suqeim, Wasl and Al Twar will operate 24 hours as a part of Ramadan special arrangement, so as to allow our customers to enjoy their Ramadan shopping irrespective of the any time frame and avoid crowd or even long queue. Our strategies will not only help us ease the burden on our Citizens and residents, but will instil the spirit of giving and doing good as well.”  

Discontinuing Ramadan Basket 

Mr. Yaqoob Al Balooshi, Fresh Category Trade Dept. Manager at Union Coop said, “Taking a different route from its usual practice, Union Coop this year will not be including Ramadan Basket as the firm believes in offering the freedom of ‘choice’ to the consumers. Union Coop believes every shopper should have the freedom of choosing their products based on their own preferences, nationalities, age, community or any other criteria from the wide range of discounted products and offers. Our customers are free to create their own Ramadan Basket with the products they seem best fit, after all, Union Coop is all about creating customer HAPPINESS.” 

Curbing the exploitations by some Grocery Shop Owners 

Speaking on the malpractices of certain Grocery store owners, Al Balooshi said, “Union Coop is very specific in terms of quantity of products included in promotions, as these are directly linked to our loyalty programs. The specific number of products in promotions helps us curb the malpractices of certain grocery store owners who overcharge their consumers way above the actual price. A special team from Operations Dept. has been assigned the task of keeping track of mass purchases by any consumer, who may be selling the products further at high prices.”
