British Orchard Nursery chain contributes 300 boxes for the ‘Lakum’ initiative this Ramadan

May 30, 2018; Dubai, UAE:  In the true charitable spirit of Ramadan, young children of British Orchard Nursery across all its branches in the UAE created custom-made packages for their counterparts around the world. Contributing to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum’s ‘For You’ – Lakum initiative and with the idea of putting smiles on the faces of children in need across the globe, the exercise aimed to inculcate a sense of social responsibility, compassion and care in nursery children.

The ‘Lakum’ boxes, lovingly prepared by the preschoolers, were even personalized by the children as they contributed their favorite toys in addition to the educational supplies including pens, pencils, stationary items, books, colouring books, paintbrushes etc alongside the hygiene items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hairclips, soap bars etc.

Speaking at the occasion Dr Vandana Gandhi, CEO and Founder of British Orchard Nursery chain said: “It’s never too early to inculcate empathy in children for those who are less fortunate than them and such values are just as important as imparting academic knowledge. We hope and believe that such activities encourage our little ones to reach out and help others in need and go on to create a brighter, happier tomorrow.

“It was quite heartwarming to see children personalizing the boxes with their favourite toys. The joy of giving and sharing truly is an overwhelming emotion and with this exercise we have seen our children understand it better,” added Dr. Gandhi.

Headed by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and part of 'Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award', the ‘Lakum’ Box initiative aims to teach school children the value of sharing and sensitizing them towards others’ needs and wants.

British Orchard Nursery supports orphanages, old age homes, animal shelters and charitable causes within the UAE, such as Dubai Cares. The Nursery’s employees also give back to the community by volunteering their time, participating in events such as the Walk for Education and Walk for Diabetes, among other initiatives. In fact, the nursery has also been awarded for its efforts in CSR, receiving the Arabia CSR Award. Last year, the preschool celebrated its 10th anniversary, gifting the proceeds to Rashid PaediatricCenter, Dubai.
