Fox Network Group Employees Roll-Up Their Sleeves to Protect Marine Life in the UAE

As part of FOX’s 21CF Impact Week and in line with National Geographic’s Planet or Plastic Campaign

Over 50 employees from Fox Network Group join hands in mangroves clean-up in RAK

Dubai, UAE , October 29, 2018 – As part of its commitment to the UAE community and in line with its Planet or Plastic campaign commitment, Fox Network Group in partnership with Azraq, a UAE non-profit marine conservation organization, conducted a clean-up initiative on Khor Muzahmi mangroves in Ras Al Khaimah.  Employees collected 75 kilograms of bags of garbage that stands to threaten marine life.

The activity comes as part of 21st Century Fox’s Global Impact week – a commitment by the company to positively impact the communities in which its employees live and work.  Through this global week of service, thousands of colleagues around the world dedicate their time to giving back to local communities.  It is also aligned with FNG’s National Geographic aimed at raising awareness of the growing amount of single-use plastic in the world’s oceans and reducing the amount of single-use plastic that enters them.

Sanjay Raina, General Manager and Senior Vice-President of Fox Networks Groups (FNG) said: “At Fox Networks Group, we are proud to have called the UAE home to our MENA regional office for the last 10 years. The mangroves clean-up initiative, part of 21CF Social Impact, reflects the sense of responsibility all of our team feels towards preserving and giving back to the local community. It also reflects our corporate culture to be of service, whether through raising awareness about issues that matter or engaging directly in action, as we did today to protect and preserve the UAE’s mangroves and marine habitat.”

Raina added, “Making an impact when it comes to environmental protection cannot be done in isolation; it requires a collective effort of organizations working hand in hand. We are proud to partner with a like-minded organization such as Azraq ME for this particular initiative aimed at conserving and protecting the habitat and wildlife of the world’s oceans. And we look forward to many more such opportunities.”

According to FNG’s research as part of the Planet or Plastic initiative, each year nine (9) million tons of plastic waste ends up in the ocean. Some estimates suggest this plastic could remain in marine environments for 450 years or longer, and the problem is only getting worse.
