RAK Fun Zumbathon to mark World Diabetes Day
The event, hosted by RAK Hospital will be held on 15th November 2018, 7pm – 9pm in Marjan Island
In the UAE one in five people are diabetic while another one in five are pre-diabetic
November 13th, 2018; RAK Al Khaimah, UAE: In their effort to create awareness about preventing and managing Diabetes with regular physical activity and to commemorate World Diabetes Day, RAK Hospital is organizing a fun Zumbathon on 15th November 2018.
The fun event will transform Marjan Island stage into a red-hot, exhilarating dance fitness explosion from 7 pm – 9 pm on that day. Hundreds of participants are expected to dance out diabetes burning about 500,000 combined calories in one session, letting the music move them down a path to wellness and diabetes management and prevention.
The Latin-inspired dance workout is one of the most popular group exercise classes in the world. Zumba may help prevent type 2 diabetes and lower the risk for other obesity-related diseases, including heart disease and some kinds of cancer, while boosting HDL, or good cholesterol, in the body.
Diabetes is a major health concern in the UAE, where one in five people is a diabetic and another one in five is a pre-diabetic.
“The good news is that consistent measures to curb the diseases by the government and other healthcare institutions are beginning to bear fruit,” said Dr Raza Siddiqui, CEO of Arabian Healthcare Group and Executive Director at RAK Hospital, “The recent National Health Survey states that the prevalence of diabetes in the UAE population has declined to 11.8 from 19 percent in 2010. This is an encouraging development, and we hope that with greater efforts, we will manage to control the spread of diabetes among the UAE residents.
“At our end, RAK Hospital and RAK Diabetes Centre in Dubai are constantly coming up with both traditional and innovation methods to draw people’s attention towards diabetes and to help them avoid the disease or manage it well. We are also driving home the point that besides reducing the quality of lifestyle, diabetes is a huge economic burden which can be easily avoided through a few healthy lifestyle changes,” added Dr Raza Siddiqui.
The event is being hosted by RAK Hospital in association with Marjan Island and Gold’s Gym as the official fitness partner. For more information, please contact 07 207 4444.
