December 19, 2018: The Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA) has revealed the signing of a strategic new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal (EALL) Counsel. The move is aimed at promoting joint cooperation between the two parties, especially in the smooth exchange of knowledge and successful experiences to ensure institutional integration, which is seen as an essential component in the efforts to improve the country's legislative agenda.

The agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Dr. Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander for Excellence & Pioneering, Chairman of EIPA and Consultant Zayed Saeed Saif Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal Counsel. Both parties expressed confidence that the newly signed MoU will play a key role in the continuing efforts to help increase legal awareness on the protection of intellectual property rights, in line with the goals and objectives set forth in UAE Vision 2021.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties have agreed on organizing a series of seminars, meetings, interactive workshops and training programs to help increase legal awareness and aid in the promotion of a culture of intellectual property--providing key economic and social development support for the country.

H.E. Al Obaidly expressed EIPA's commitment towards creating strong partnerships with various government entities to further strengthen efforts in the protection of intellectual property rights, which is considered a strategic priority of the goals and objectives of UAE Vision 2021 to build a sustainable and competitive economy and maintain a secure and happy society.

He pointed out that the partnership with the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal Counsel is expected to help pave the way for new achievements, particularly in enhancing knowledge and utilizing expertise to help consolidate the country's leading position in the global movement to protect intellectual property rights.

'We are confident that this new partnership with the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal Counsel will serve as a cornerstone in the thrust to enhance integration and cooperation across the move to increase legal awareness about intellectual property rights, which was given top priority by the country's wise leadership. We affirm our commitment to ensure the success of this new partnership,' Al Obaidly stated.

Meanwhile, Al Shamsi lauded the two associations’ commitment towards the protection of intellectual property rights, which is seen as an important element in the country's efforts to promote a culture of innovation. He also affirmed the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal Counsel's commitment to work closely with leading legal and judicial entities in establishing new laws and legislation concerning intellectual property rights.

The agreement is expected to bolster stronger collaborative efforts between the two parties, including the exchange of knowledge and experience and implementation of various related activities like seminars, meetings, workshops and training courses designed to enhance skills of human resources and protect intellectual and human creativity. Both EIPA and the Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal Counsel have revealed that they will be creating a joint working team that will help in drafting and implementing laws concerning intellectual property rights and its protection.
