Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi Launches Heritage Pulses Programme
Programme offers various educational and entertaining family activities through 10 January
Abu Dhabi, UAE, 27 December 2018: The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is currently overseeing its initiative Heritage Pulses (Nabadat Torathiah) in all branches of its affiliated libraries across the emirate. Having launched in mid-December, and running until 10 January 2019, the program brings together the traditional heritage of the UAE with modern aspects of the country, through various educational and fun activities for families and participants of all ages.
Heritage Pulses’ various events are designed to introduce the general public to the heritage of the UAE and its integral role in the formation of an Emirati national identity. The programme aims to instill pride, particularly amongst the younger generation, in the UAE’s authentic local culture, establishing a link between the past and the present as the country looks to build its future. Heritage Pulses will also highlight the value of reading in strengthening the bonds between family members, through various social and interactive activities.
The programme is in two parts: the first is the series of family-oriented workshops and activities that promote a connection with the UAE’s heritage, and the second is a competition between the hosting libraries, to encourage engagement with the initiative.
The activities will include workshops on poetry, sand painting, and papier-mâché; traditional Talli embroidery using Kajoja pillows; as well as traditional Emirati fairytales and Arabic calligraphy. There will also be an “A Journey in My Country” activation.
