Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 19th January 2019:   Dubai Land Department (DLD) announces that its smart platform, Dubai REST, is nominated for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) awards 2019, where voting will continue till 10 February.

The eighth WSIS will be held from 8 – 12 April 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland where 300 Arab and international delegations, including heads of state and high-level representatives, are expected to participate. WSIS is an annual, prestigious, international award that is organised for countries around the world to compete across 18 categories with more than 1,000 projects worldwide being submitted for a chance to be nominated.

HE Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of DLD, said: “We are always seeking to strengthen DLD’s position to deliver the highest level of global service, register global excellence in the field of real estate registration, and employ technology to serve the local and global markets. We have already succeeded in increasing investor confidence in Dubai’s real estate market, improving upon the level of transparency, and allowing ease of ownership and management due to our advanced projects, applications, and platforms, including our, recently launched Dubai REST smart platform which has already witnessed a high turnout and demand from our customers. We hope that Dubai REST will win the award in this global event, especially as it is an unprecedented achievement in terms of the services it provides to investors in the real estate sector.”

Bin Mejren added: DLD is proud to rank first in adopting technology for service of the community. Our Dubai REST platform has been nominated in the Technology for Community Service Category at the WSIS 2019 Awards. We encourage our real estate developers, brokers, government agencies, and strategic partners to vote for this platform, registering a new achievement not only for DLD, but also Dubai and the UAE.”

DLD climbed three ranks to seventh place internationally in real estate registration according to the Doing Business Index due to DLD’s implementation of blockchain and artificial intelligence in its main and joint services by applying digital contracts and big-data technology.

The WSIS Awards is a unique international competition that was developed in response to requests from summit participants to develop an effective mechanism for assessing individuals, governments, and civil societies as well as local, regional, and international agencies, research institutions, and private sector companies, given the remarkable success of implementing development-oriented strategies, drawing on information and communication technology (ICT) as an enabling element for development. The Awards are an essential part of the evaluation process at the Summit, which was first held 2004, and were first held in 2012, acquiring since then a high degree of interest and popularity within the ICT community for development.

DLD launched Dubai REST, the world's first smart platform, at Cityscape Global 2018 in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to consolidate Dubai's position and leadership, and for the Emirate to be the smartest and happiest city in the world. This platform is a unique achievement for its important services, most prominently enabling customers to verify their properties through facial recognition. Through this achievement, DLD demonstrated its ability to continue innovation and maintain its excellence due to its smart services that serve its customers in a fast and secure manner as well as meet all real estate parties’ needs.

The list of services provided through Dubai REST includes certificates of owned properties (To whom it may concern), title deeds, property valuations, and map requests. Through the app, users can also file lawsuits and file disputes for amicable settlements, lawsuit inquiries, a Rental Good-Conduct Certificate, requests to register and renew Ejari Contracts, a rental increase calculator, Ejari contract cancellations, project status tracking service, and real estate services trustees.
