Al Serkal: We strive to be ready for the future and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve the National Agenda Indicators 2021

Dubai, UAE, January 28, 2019:  Within the context of its participation at Arab Health 2019 which will be held at Dubai World Trade Centre 28 – 31 January, the Ministry of Health and Prevention “MOHAP” announced the launch of “Actiste” service for the management of diabetes.

Actiste is the world’s first service for monitoring and treating diabetics remotely. This service comes as part of the Ministry’s keenness to develop its practices so as to achieve the highest rates of quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare in UAE.

Actiste provides remote monitoring services and management of the treatment of outside diabetics, in addition to contributing to the provision of realistic, correct and reliable health data for the National Unified Medical Record.

This service is a result of cooperation between MOHAB, Swedish Digital Health Co “Brighter” and its sub-company “Alba Arabian” in Dubai.

H.E. Dr. Youssif Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecretary for the Ministry’s Hospitals Sector, said that the launch of the innovative service “Actiste” is a translation for the directives of the wise government to completely incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into medical services, and within the framework of MOHAP’s strategy to enhance society’s health by providing fair, comprehensive and innovative health services with international standards which exceed patients’ expectations. Also, this strategy adopts the creative concepts as work method to ensure the readiness for future and employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve the National Agenda Indicators 2021.

Dr. Al Serkal pointed out that “Actiste” service offers the engagement, empowerment and education of those patients who are suffering from non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and how to deal with it, the matter that contributes to finding out the real treatment and following-up the vital data, in addition to improving the resources and increasing the quality of both service providers and patients.

He further stated that the launch of Actiste falls under the efforts of MOHAP to develop the National Strategy for Non-Communicable Diseases Control which is considered one of the most prominent challenges the healthcare systems are facing around the globe, particularly in view of the prevalence and transmission of these diseases in modern times. That makes the control of these diseases at the forefront of the interests and priorities of UAE’s health policy.

Actiste device provides self-management of diabetes for every patient according to his condition. The device reduces the number of necessary steps for giving insulin by 67%, while the time of the examined blood glucose and the actual quantities of injected insulin are automatically recorded, along with ensuring data sharing through an embedded global mobile communication unit and permanently connected in order to guarantee an independent and safe transfer for the recorded data. This is considered the first step to provide better support for the mobile digital health for UAE citizens and residents.
