Here are the key trends to follow this Spring Summer 2019:
A Simple Melody – Womenswear
The shift into summer weather calls for humble organic materials such as cotton and linen bamboo blends; roomy summer dresses, full-sleeve shirts and pared-back tees celebrate the beauty of simple forms, enhanced with individualist touches such as mismatched or hand-carved buttons. The popularity of Rejina Pyo's artistic designs champions this update.
Key items: full-sleeve dress, tapered T-shirt and straight-leg jeans
Platonic Dreams – Womenswear
This story looks at loungewear with a tailored approach. Comfortable layers are made up of super-soft linens, lightweight silks and cashmere blends. Elastic pull-on waistbands replace traditional fastenings, and garments are reconstructed using knot and tie techniques that sculpt the body. Even the subtle nod to suiting has a relaxed feel.
Key items: slouched trousers, wrap and tie blazer, cashmere set
Light Therapy – Womenswear
Sports-inspired looks mature and evolve for SS19. Functionality plays an important role, as traditional outerwear garments are reinvented in feminine sheers. Either reflective or high transparency, materials are mixed and layered, creating new tones that work just as well on occasion wear pieces and casual items.
Key items: voluminous sheer parka, midi-dress, sheer overlay cut-and-sew shift
Altered State of Mind – Womenswear
Switch up traditional English garden florals for ditsy, tropical and psychedelic variations. Abstract stripes are cut-about, creating surreal pattern works that translate well onto woven or jersey bases. Combine encrusted 3D sequins with shiny, glittery sur face designs for a fun and vibrant look.
Key items: sequin-encrusted blouse, stripe Lurex dress, floral-print dress
Easy Breezy – Menswear
This resort-inspired trend is as much about how consumers feel in their clothing as it is how they feel about it. Easy tailoring and smart casualwear, often paired, creates an interesting juxtaposition – much like a world where analogue and digital technologies live together. Irreverent details and bold prints give product categories such as suiting a carefree self-assuredness.
Manufacturing advancements blur the line between product categories, where lightweight layers blend shirts with jackets and outerwear. Specialised treatments and intricate utility details are as important as the items themselves. Performance sportswear becomes a sophisticated genre.
Smart Country – Menswear
Formal looks become more directional while paying homage to country styling. Simplicity and comfort rule the day in this deconstructed and unfussy direction. Natural fabrics are blended with synthetics to give designs a subtle nuance. 'Sunday bests’ become everyday workhorses, serving as foundational garments for building a more complete, grown-up wardrobe.
Tailored Romance – Menswear
A bohemian sense of exploration and appreciation for subcultural style tribes heralds the return of romantic dressing. Craftsmanship is key, as younger generations become infatuated with time proven classics. Soft tailoring is joined by flowy shirting and robust knitwear – each more covetable than the next. Consumers are on a quest and these items are their grails.
Farmers Market – Kids wear
This eclectic story draws on both provincial and urban influences. Vintage tees and accessories are styled with maxi skirts, easy-fit pants or denim playsuits for a dressed down weekend aesthetic. Vegetal-toned stripes and color-blocking also come into play.
Super Moto – Kids wear
Super Moto Influences from video games, superheroes and streetwear merge, resulting in an exciting new take on motocross style. Color -blocking and bold graphics complement pixelated effects, creating an interplay between clean and whimsical looks.
