United Arab Emirates -  March 6, 2019:  NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery’s auxiliary venue the Project Space is proud to announce its next exhibition – Crossingsand Corridors, which will welcome visitors from Sunday, March 10 until Tuesday, March 26, 2019 .

Curated by Flounder Lee, artist, curator and associate professor of Studio Art at American University of Dubai, the exhibition will feature the works of Linda Adele Goodine and Saba Qizilbash.

“I chose these two amazing artists as much for their differences as their similarities,” says curator Lee.“Qizilbash creates intricate graphite drawings and Goodine creates giant colorful photographs. Both, though, work with themes such as harsh socio-political realities. Additionally, they are also two of the hardest working and most interesting artists that I’ve ever had the honor of working with.”

Crossing and Corridors features the work of Saba Qizilbash and Linda Adele Goodine, two artists who deal with harsh geopolitical realities in their work through widely different methods. Qizilbash’s intricate, enticing drawings lure the viewer into a charged, hostile space, such as a border crossing between Pakistan and India. Goodine’s work, by contrast, is massive, complex, and vividly colorful, and deals with topics such as the rising conflicts in the struggle between land conservation and economic progress.

Linda Adele Goodine has created large-scale, performative, elaborate, constructed photos for three-decades. The Blue Jackal Under the Tree, made during her Fulbright Fellowship in India, explores water scarcity, food systems and river confluences through the lens of the monsoon. Part constructed, part found, her work brings dialogue across disciplines and generations and seeks social justice and equality through education and collaboration. For Crossings and Corridors, Goodine will combine works created during her Fulbright residency with selections from two previous bodies of work: The Gibson Lemon Series and The Beeline Highway Series.

Saba Qizilbash confronts themes of boundaries and limitations in her work. She focuses on the hemming of divided, disputed land through detailed urban infrastructural solutions. Being Pakistani, raised in the UAE and going to university in both Pakistan and the US, Qizilbash is in a unique position to talk about the socio-political realities of South Asia. “I draw these locations to immerse myself in the inquiry of these imagined and inviolable boundaries where constant separation and surveillance take place,” she says.

The Project Space will host Crossings and Corridors for three weeks, Saturday to Thursday from 3 pm to 10 pm. The Project Space is operated by the staff of the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery and housed within the campus’ Arts Center. It is dedicated to NYU Abu Dhabi’s community projects such as the annual Capstone Festival, semester-end exhibitions of student works, and faculty-curated exhibitions, providing a platform for experimentation and exploration.
