Dubai, UAE; May 19, 2019:  Pure Gold Jewellers supported Um Al Quwain Police & Punishment and Correctional Department, to host an iftar for prisoners and their families.

The Iftar was attended by Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Al-Ghous, Head of the Umm Al Quwain Correctional Center; Major Dr. Saif Zaid, Director of the Punishment Reform Foundation; Firoz Merchant, Chairman, Pure Gold Group; Karim Merchant, Group CEO & MD, Pure Gold Group, and other police officials.

Commenting on the event, philanthropist Firoz Merchant, says “Iftar is a time for ‘togetherness’ with all members of the community, and throughout the holy month of Ramadan, we strive to devote our time and efforts to spreading love, forgiveness and peace.

We collaborated with Umm Al Quwain Police to host iftar for the prisoners from various backgrounds to give them a chance to enjoy a lovely time with their beloved family members. Under our “Forgotten Society” programme to help insolvent prisoners, I have started a new initiative to host Iftar events for prisoners who are unable to get release order due to incompletion of their jail term as per the court verdict. The iftar events will continue every year in various jails of the Emirates.”

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Al-Ghous, head of the Umm Al Quwain Correctional center, said “With the Ministry of Interior, we are making every effort possible to provide a better life for the prisoners and help their families through difficult times. “

Philanthropist Firoz Merchant, Chairman & Founder, Pure Gold Group has been spreading the act of kindness through their ‘Forgotten Society’ initiative. The initiative set up in 2008, to help secure the release of insolvent prisoners either by paying off their debts or purchasing air tickets for those who completed their sentences, has united thousands of prisoners with their families.

In 2019, during the holy month of Ramadan, philanthropist Firoz Merchant, Founder and Chairman of Pure Gold Group, is contributing to the release of 600 insolvent prisoners in the UAE. He will also help to secure the release of a further 400 prisoners by year end. The total contributions, being made to give the unfortunate prisoners a second chance in life, is AED 1.5 million.
