Tashkeel announces open call for affordable design range Tanween
UAE-based designers must submit their proposals by August 25
Dubai, UAE – July 18, 2019: Resident designers are invited to participate in the second edition of Tanween+ by submitting their design proposal for affordable and functional products that are inspired by and manufactured in the UAE.
Tanween+ is an offshoot of the Tanween Design Programme, a professional development initiative by Tashkeel for emerging designers, makers and artisans living and working in the UAE. Tanween+ was launched in 2018 to establish a range of small, functional items that reflect the spirit of the UAE. It provides designers an opportunity to pursue their creative enquiry and research, harnessing the cross-culture range of skills, materials and resources found in the region.
Designers living and working in the UAE, including alumni of the Tanween Design Programme, are encouraged to participate by applying with a design proposal by August 25. Tashkeel encourages designers to collaborate with local manufacturers and makers, and work within a budget of AED 1,000 (excluding the AED 500 prototype budget) to produce a minimum of 10 units.
The range will be launched and sold at Dubai Design Week 2019. Thereafter, the products will be sold through Tashkeel’s platforms for up to two years.
