Dubai, UAE, 25 September 2019:  Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world's largest district cooling services provider, announced the commencement of providing district cooling services to the first phase of Deira Waterfront project. The district cooling project is part of the contract between Empower and Ithra Dubai LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD).

Empower specified that its district cooling project for Deira Waterfront will be executed in two phases using innovative technologies in district cooling. The first phase includes providing around 20,000 Refrigeration Tones (RT) to 18 buildings, covering an area of 570,000 square meters and the second phase includes providing 25,000 RT to 28 buildings, covering a total area of around 910,000 square meters.

“We are happy to partner with Ithraa Dubai in the world's largest waterfront project and one of Dubai’s leading real estate projects. This reflects the confidence of real estate developers and stakeholders in district cooling services,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

Bin Shafar stressed that Empower has begun a new phase of expanding district cooling services to Dubai's largest real estate projects. The number of buildings served by Empower’s district cooling services has increased by 8% from last year, reaching a total of 43 new buildings during the first half of 2019, with a cooling capacity of more than 56,000 RT.

Deira Waterfront is one of the prominent real estate projects in the emirate. It reflects the leading development role for Dubai’s sustainable projects. The project would occupy the last remaining Persian Gulf coastline of Dubai; it is a conglomeration of canals and artificial archipelago, as well as residential and commercial buildings, hotels, and other vital facilities that support Dubai as a tourist and commercial destination

“Empower has connected its services to major projects in Dubai, including the Royal Atlantis Resort and Residences at Palm Jumeirah, the Dubai Arena and the ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC. Empower has also begun its experimental operation in the Cityland Mall project in Global Village area,” added Bin Shafar.
“Empower constantly strives to spread awareness on the environmentally friendly district cooling services. This supports the vision of UAE’s wise leadership, which pays great attention to sustainability, and has addressed the need to meet the challenges of climate change, as it is a real obstacle in achieving growth and prosperity,” continued Bin Shafar.

Empower is involved in the implementation of several sustainability strategies, notably the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which seeks to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix to 50 percent, the National Climate Change Plan 2017-2050, and the long-term national initiative to build a green economy in the UAE, under the slogan ‘A green economy for sustainable development’, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which is leading the UAE to become a pioneer in the field of the new green economy globally.

Empower provides district cooling services to more than 1,090 buildings, catering to more than 100,000 customers. The company operates more than 1.43 Million Refrigeration Tons (RT), providing environmentally friendly district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Bluewaters, Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, International Media Production Zone and others.
