Ajman, United Arab Emirates (March 8, 2020):   A recent audit revealed that 31% of the companies currently trading in Ajman Free Zone (AFZ) have been founded by women.

Striking a gender balance among employees is a crucial goal for AFZ especially in line with the UAE Gender Balance Council’s vision which seeks to reduce the gender gap across all government sectors as well as enhance the UAE’s ranking in global reports regarding gender equality.

In celebration of International Women’s Month, AFZ announced the inaugural launch of the #SheCanBe campaign which highlights the accomplishments and stories of female entrepreneurs and employees in the Free Zone. The month-long social media campaign aims to inspire other women to take the step to start their own businesses. A variety of social media posts will be shared showcasing testimonials and facts reflecting AFZ’s commitment to increasing women’s involvement in business.

Fatma Salem, Acting General Manager of AFZ said: “We are seeing an increase in female members of society taking the initiative and setting up their own business and that is very encouraging. We are proud of them and proud to share that 42% of our senior management roles are occupied by women. Moreover, among the Free Zone’s employees, women make up over 55% of the workforce.”

Ruihong Chen, General Manager of Win Two General Trading spoke of her six years at Ajman China Mall: “The past six years have been quite rewarding. It is worrisome to set up a business, but Ajman Free Zone helped every step of the way, patiently explaining every detail and facilitated a smooth application for our license and visa.”

Hala Lutfi, Researcher at Searcho Consultancy said: “The UAE, and Ajman Free Zone in particular, has put in great efforts to support women in setting up their companies. The facilities are a huge help and their Freelancers Package is well-tailored.”

The audit also found the top women investment sectors in Ajman Free Zone are Beauty, Fashion, Education, Technology, and F&B.
