Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 08, 2020: Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) today launched “Education Uninterrupted”, a nationwide fundraising campaign that tackles the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the education of children and youth in the UAE. The campaign, which is in line with the UAE Government’s decision to extend distance learning until the end of the academic year, calls on the UAE community to make financial and in-kind donations in support of children and youth from low-income families who cannot afford to purchase a desktop computer, laptop or tablet and join their peers in distance learning from the safety of their home.
This campaign hopes to alleviate the burden on parents who are playing a key role in their children’s distance learning as well as support teachers in their effort to continue delivering quality education to students during the COVID-19 outbreak, thereby joining doctors, nurses and medical staff in being the community’s first line of defense during these challenging times.
H.E. Jameela Bint Salem Al-Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education said, “Education Uninterrupted, a campaign launched by the Ministry of Education and Dubai Cares, is a reflection of the unity of the UAE community, both individuals and organizations. It offers everyone an opportunity to support students in the UAE by enabling them to continue their education during these challenging times witnessed by our nation and the rest of the world due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The UAE is the fruit of the wise vision of our founding fathers who established the nation on a foundation of eternal values that continue to live in us today. Because of that vision and those values, we are today living in a nation defined by co-existence and giving, and this is something that we need to do our best to support by enabling the nation’s students to complete this academic year without any obstacles and provide them with the ICT devices and tools they need.”
Praising Dubai Cares and all other organizations that are supporting this campaign by providing ICT devices and tools to students, H.E. Jameela Bint Salem Al-Muhairi concluded, “This is a true reflection of the values and commitment by national organizations towards social responsibility”.

Speaking about the vital role of this campaign in these challenging times, His Excellency Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares and Member of its Board of Directors said, “The UAE Government has taken various commendable measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, with the most notable being the prompt action to close education institutions across the country and shift the entire student population to a distance learning model. As a UAE-based global philanthropic organization focused on providing access to quality education, particularly during times of emergencies and crises, we believe we have a vital role to play in ensuring equitable access to distance learning among all UAE children and youth. This is why we have partnered with the Ministry of Education to deliver an opportunity to the UAE community to support students who are currently unable to join their peers in distance learning. I urge everyone to join us in this effort as we enter the 3rd week of distance learning, to ensure that no student is left behind.”
Private and public sector organizations as well as individuals can also donate new or used devices such as desktop computers, laptops and tablets by filling out a donation form on www.dubaicares.ae
Moreover, organizations that have unused stock of ICT devices and tools can make bulk donations towards the campaign by filling out the same form.
This Zakat-compliant campaign which will run for 2 weeks aims to equip initially 40,000 UAE students with the devices they need to join their peers in distance learning. As campaign logistics partner, Abu Dhabi based Tawzea Logistics and Shipping Company will collect the shipment from the specified pick-up point and sanitize the items before delivering them to the Ministry of Education that will take on the task of formatting, refurbishing and installing the necessary operating system and software before handing them over to Tawzea Logistics and Shipping Company that will deliver them to students in UAE to pursue their distance learning.
Commenting on this contribution, Dr. Al Gurg added: Commenting on this contribution, Dr. Al Gurg added: “We all may know someone in our lives that has at least a single person whose children are not able to pursue their education through distance learning because of the cost related to obtaining the necessary ICT tools. During these challenging times where learning has been affected by Covid-19 outbreak, solidarity with children and youth offers a glimpse of hope for them, their families and the wider community. As testimony of the unity that binds us all, Dubai Cares has committed AED 5 million towards the provision of ICT devices to support the continuity of education for those children in the UAE through Education Uninterrupted campaign. I hope this campaign will become the cornerstone of a national fund that will cater to the ICT needs of children from low-income families, and give donors from all levels of society a chance to contribute to.”
Dubai Cares and Easa Saleh Al Gurg Charity Foundation were the first organizations to pledge support to the “Community Solidarity Fund against Covid-19”, an initiative launched by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), by committing AED 5 million and AED 3 million respectively towards the provision of ICT devices and tools to students in the UAE to help them continue their distance learning. Both organizations’ total funding of AED 8 million will be routed through Education Uninterrupted campaign.

This campaign and others we are witnessing by various UAE-based entities are a true reflection of the level of awareness and commitment within the UAE community towards collectively overcoming these challenging times and translating them into an opportunity to come together and demonstrate to the world our true heritage and culture of giving.”
H.E. Dr. Al Shamsi added, “These challenges we are witnessing today demonstrate the true essence of communities around the world, especially the UAE community as a whole, which is demonstrating a true commitment towards supporting children and youth’s education by providing them with the computers and tablets they need to continue their education amidst the current COVID-19 outbreak. This makes us very proud to be part of a community that prioritizes education even in the most difficult of times.”
