Dubai Chamber and Al Tamimi & Co discuss Covid-19 and Force Majeure in the UAE
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 19, 2020: As part of its continuous efforts to keep the business community in Dubai informed with the latest legal developments and to help the private sector protect their businesses during the current circumstances, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with Al-Tamimi & Co, organized a webinar on “Covid-19 and Force Majeure in the UAE which was attended by 479 participants from various sectors of the business community.
The webinar aimed to introduce the impact of Covid-19 on the business sector and its legal implications. It also aimed to identify whether Covid-19 constitutes a force majeure event and the impact of force majeure on key industries such as shipping, logistics, aviation and real estate.
The webinar was moderated by Essam Al-Tamimi, Chairman & Founder of the Al-Tamimi & Co, with presentations from Naief Yahia, Partner – Litigation, Al-Tamimi & Co, Omar Omar, Partner - Head of Transport & Insurance – UAE, Al Tamimi & Co and Mohammed Kawasmi, Partner- Real Estate, Al Tamimi & Co.
The webinar was attended by Lawyers & Legal Professionals, General Managers, Business Owners, Contract Administrators, International Trade Professionals, Shipping & Logistics Executives, Risk & Compliance Professionals, Insurers, Real Estate Agents & Investors, Business Groups, Councils and Associations.
Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, Dubai Chamber, stressed on the importance of organizing this webinar as many companies are facing difficulties in their contractual obligations due to the current situation, which has affected their commercial transactions at the local and international level.
Kazim indicated that the Chamber, through its various training programs and webinars, is constantly focused on spreading awareness about the business environment and polices to keep the business community updated on the latest legal developments, especially in light of the challenges due to Covid-19.
Essam stressed that Al Tamimi & Co were pleased to cooperate with the Dubai Chamber to deliver this event. “It is very important during these challenging times that businesses have clarity with regard to their contractual arrangements in order to secure their future and those of their employee,” he remarked. He further added that Al Tamimi & Co has created a COVID-19 website to provide information to the business community on all legal aspects relating to the COVID -19 and are happy to provide help and guidance to any business.
Dubai Chamber regularly organizes various training and introductory workshops that are of interest to the business sector in the emirate, and contribute to enhancing their awareness of the latest legal and legislative developments that regulate the business environment.
