Mrs Cynthia Bou Khalil Shares Weight Loss Tips To Help Improve PCOS Symptoms
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 28 September 2020: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a very common health condition that is known to affect women everywhere. The recent studies indicate that the UAE has one of the highest incidences of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) in the world, only next to Europe. The increase in the number of cases is associated with higher levels of Obesity.
According to Mrs Cynthia Bou Khalil, Nutritional Consultant at Allurion Technologies, following a healthy diet and an active lifestyle can help the patient deal with PCOS in a much better way.
Reducing the weight even by up to 5% can improve the symptoms of PCOS, including fertility. Mrs Cynthia suggests that women who are overweight can reduce the symptoms and overall risk of developing long term health problems by losing weight.
Mrs Cynthia Bou Khalil shares some essential tips relating to weight loss and PCOS.
1. Get routinely screened for type 2 diabetes
PCOS is associated with an increased risk of developing health problems in later life, such as type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol levels. For this reason, it is recommended that women with PCOS get routinely screened for type 2 diabetes earlier and more often than women without PCOS.
2. Include a high-fiber diet
Women with PCOS are known to be insulin resistant, which means they aren’t able to use the insulin they produce effectively, making it harder to lose weight. Including high-fiber food in the diet helps combat insulin resistance by slowing down digestion and reducing the impact of sugar on the blood.
3. Follow a healthy diet
Having a healthy diet that is low in sugar and processed foods and high in fibers will help regulate blood sugar and facilitate weight loss. Avoid food such as bread, aerated drinks and red meat. Instead add food such as vegetables, fish and fruits.
4. Have an Active lifestyle
As advised by experts and physicians, exercising at least 150 minutes per week helps obese or overweight women in experiencing improved ovulation and with weight loss.
5. Talk to your doctor about non-surgical ways of weight loss
Losing weight is essential if you have PCOS and you are overweight. If you have not been able to lose weight with a healthy diet or a physical training program, discuss with your specialized doctor, the non-surgical procedures of weight loss.
Allurion Technologies has developed the first gastric balloon for weight loss that does not require endoscopy* nor anesthesia for insertion or removal.
The balloon is first introduced into the body through a capsule, and then it is filled with a liquid within 20 minutes. The balloon is designed to help patients with a BMI> 27 to always feel full, which makes them eat less, and not feel the hunger that is usually linked to any diet. You can lose on average 10 to 15 kg in these 16 weeks that the balloon is in the stomach.
The program includes constant follow-up with a dietician to improve the quality of nutrition, to help in choosing healthy meals, and to enhance the patient’s dietary habits. After four months, the balloon would automatically burst, discharge, and exit the body naturally.
