
Al Maya Launches British Week in Dubai
Opening the Al Maya British Week, Inaugurated by International Trade Minister Hon’ Ranil Jayawardena
United Arab Emirates - November 25, 2020: Al Maya Supermarket launches new products from independent British food and drink companies today. A showcase of the best of British products will run in-store from 25 November – 9 December with support from the UK’s Department for International Trade and Santander UK.
Mr Kamal Vachani, Group Director of Al Maya Group welcomed Hon. Ranil Jayawardena, Minister for International Trade… and H.E. Mr. Simon Penney, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, to the launch event.
Opening the Al Maya British Week, International Trade Minister Hon. Ranil Jayawardena inaugurated the event and said: “This government stands ready to support British exporters through the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. We are proud to work in partnership with Al Maya Group to enable British exporters to bring brilliant British products to a wider audience.
“The UAE is already the largest destination in the region for British food and drink exports, worth £80m in the first quarter of 2020 alone. I’m confident that this will continue to grow as more people discover the breadth of British brands on offer.”
Speaking at the event, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, H.E. Mr. Simon Penney said: “The UK government stands ready to support UK exporters through the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. We are proud to work in partnership with Al Maya Group to enable British exporters to showcase their quality products to a wide audience.
“The UAE is already the largest destination in the region for UK food and drink exports, with £80m worth of products entering the country from the UK in the first quarter of 2020. I’m confident that this will continue to grow as more consumers discover our fantastic range of brands from across the United Kingdom.”
Mr. Kamal Vachani Group Director of Al Maya Group added “Al Maya already distributes a wide range of British products in the UAE; products which are in high demand. We are proud to work with our UK partners to bring new and exciting brands to the UAE.
“British brands in the showcase include Truffle Hunter, For Aisha, Mornflake, Troofoods, Corker Crisps, Pulsin, Elizabeth Shaw and Provenance Brands, which will feature alongside the hundreds of other UK products already in store.”
Al Maya Group, the UAE-based business conglomerate, has more than 50 supermarkets in the GCC countries in addition to other businesses.
