Samsung's ‘Going Green' Vision Makes Valuable Sustainability Contributions in the UAE with Innovative ‘Eco-Packaging'
The brand recently partnered with the American University in Dubai to raise environmental awareness and encourage students to lower their footprints through the acclaimed Eco-Packing Design Challenge
April 01, 2021: Samsung Gulf Electronics has reaffirmed its vision for the future by bringing sustainability to its next-generation TV range, fusing innovation with creative solutions that support consumers and the brand to help safeguard the environment. In line with its aspirations to ‘Going Green’, enable progress, and create a better tomorrow for all, Samsung introduced Eco-packaging that promotes a sustainable end-to-end product lifecycle. The concept came to life when Samsung identified that there must be a way to turn TV packaging into something useful rather than disposing of it. As such, all lifestyle TV, QLED, monitor, and audio products now come with Samsung’s Eco-Packaging, which has been designed so consumers can upcycle at home, repurpose boxes for other benefits, and reduce their carbon footprints.
As part of the eco-packaging initiative, Samsung recently collaborated with the American University in Dubai (AUD), engaging students and encouraging them to take part in the unique Eco-Packaging Design Challenge. AUD students utilized their creative prowess to turn the packaging into something useful for their own purposes and contribute to the initiative’s success.
'At Samsung, our values have always revolved around innovation, creativity, and design. As the world pursues innovative strategies that consider the environment, we are happy to provide customers with experiences that enable them to express themselves while contributing to the environment,' said Mustafa Sadick, Regional Director Head of Visual Display Group, Samsung Electronics. 'Today, consumers are conscious of their surroundings and interacting with brands that share the same principles is important to many. Through this partnership with AUD, we have not only reaffirmed to our consumers that we care about them and the environment but have also raised awareness among younger audiences and contributed to the UAE’s sustainability agenda in the process. On behalf of the Samsung family, I want to congratulate all winners and thank everyone who extended their support.'
The challenge was judged based on 4 criteria’s - innovation, originality, visual appeal, and practicality and three winners were selected by the judges. The first place winner, Fatma Almarri, won a 55” The Serif for creating an Arabic lantern commonly used in the holy month of Ramadan, while Meral Kokash and Rashed Aldahnan won a Q650T and Q450T soundbar, respectively, for finishing second and third. Samsung also built a Burj Khalifa replica with the Eco-Packing, which is displayed alongside the winning designs in the Dubai Mall brand store. Here, consumers can view these creations up close, all of which emphasize Samsung’s ultimate vision .
Today, Samsung's sustainability credentials continue to be enhanced, and consumers purchasing our Lifestyle TVs in the UAE are already contributing to the mutual environment footprint vision of Samsung, the country's leadership, and themselves. The initiative has subsequently driven the efficient use of resources for environmental purposes worldwide and Samsung now aims to continue using its influence and acting as a force for good in 2021 and beyond.
