Award given in recognition of exemplary leadership in advancing the post and parcel industry

June 9, 2021: In recognition of his long track record of success and innovation, Peter Somers, CEO of Emirates Post, was recently announced as the winner of the Industry Leadership Award during the World Post & Parcel Awards 2021.The virtual event celebrated the success of the post and parcel sector and acknowledged the contribution of industry leaders from all around the world. Somers received the coveted award for his exemplary leadership in advancing the national and international mail, parcels, and express industry.

Upon accepting the award, Somers said: 'I am honored to receive this recognition from the World Post & Parcels Awards 2021 committee. My successful journey and modest contribution to the industry is attributed to the continuous support I have received throughout my career from my board members, my shareholders, and the dedicated efforts of everyone in my team. The key does not only lie in a winning strategy, but in significantly developing the talents of the people within the organization that drives its success”.

Commenting on the future of the industry, Somers continued: 'The pandemic has accelerated the transformation challenges of our industry, in terms of both the decline of traditional mail and the growth of e-commerce, we have seen the market evolve at an unprecedented rate. The majority of the players in our industry, just like Emirates Post, have shown the necessary resilience to excel in this unseen situation. Together, with agility, courage, and determination, we can conquer the present and build the future of our amazing industry. At Emirates Post, we have done a great job over the past year. Together, with the Board of Directors, under the leadership of our Chairman H.E. Mohammed Sultan Al Qadi, the Group CEO Abdulla M. Alashram, the senior management, and all my colleagues we navigated Emirates Post through the pandemic and into the growth momentum.'

The award organizers honored Somers for his decades-long experience in the postal and logistics sector as a successful leader in bpost, the Belgian postal operator, and as an industry entrepreneur setting up several e-commerce ventures. Somers was also recognized for his current role as CEO of Emirates Post, bringing his profound knowledge to support the company’s ongoing business transformation. As the award attests, his leadership skills have propelled the company’s operations and ensured that state-of- the-art technology and systems will be a significant part of their everyday operations while upskilling talents and ensuring the health and well-being of its staff.
