• The Heart Centre of Excellence at Al Jalila Children’s Speciality Hospital is the only facility in Dubai that provides a wide range of diagnostic and treatment options in cardiology and cardiac surgery for children

Dubai, UAE - 29 September 2021: Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, the first and only hospital specialized in paediatric medicine in the United Arab Emirates, commemorates World Heart Day on 29 September – a World Heart Federation initiative that is celebrated annually across the globe.

The Heart Centre of Excellence at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital provides highly specialized treatment, procedures, and surgeries for complex conditions tailored just for children and adolescents, making it the only one of its kind in the region. It is also the only facility in Dubai that provides a wide range of diagnostic and treatment options in cardiology and cardiac surgery for children.

Their world-class infrastructure and highly skilled staff make the Centre one of the best in the Middle East. A dynamic team of highly accomplished paediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, cardiac anaesthetists, and intensivists provide the best possible treatment for all kinds of heart diseases in children across all age groups. This places the Heart Centre of Excellence at the forefront of medical innovation in the region.

Dr MohamedAl Awadhi, Chief Operating Officer of Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, said: “Today we commemorate World Heart Day. Our Heart Center of Excellence is designed and built with children in mind.  All of our caregivers, from the cardiologist to the cardio anesthetist, nursing team and cardiac surgeons to our world-class  after surgery care are pediatric educated and trained.  The technology and procedures are derived from best practices from pediatric medicine, and we are the only hospital that provides pediatric multidisciplinary practices that allow for patients to be examined by complementing subspecialities under one roof.”

Dr. Mahmoud Al Soufi, Paediatric Cardiologist at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital said, “We are committed to meeting the needs of families in Dubai and the region by providing world-class care closer to home. We are all dedicated to the health and well-being of children. I believe that together we can have a lasting impact on the lives of children in the region and around the globe.”

Dr. Al Soufi added, “The Heart Centre of Excellence is the only established paediatric cardiac facility in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The Heart Centre of Excellence enjoys the uniqueness of being part of a full-fledged world-class hospital, where every patient is assessed by a multidisciplinary and highly experienced paediatric consulting team. This means we can offer 360-degree evaluation and treatment under one roof, resulting in a definitive and clear medical solution.”

The specific requirements of children’s healthcare drive the field of medicine to further specialize in research and treatment options. Specialised medicine was born out of ground-breaking international research that was completed more than a decade ago. The evolution of this approach within paediatric care has radically changed the field of medicine. It has gained momentum because of the significant increase in positive outcomes worldwide.

As a Centre of Excellence, the facility boasts six dedicated CICU beds with individual rooms and 1:1 nurse to patient ratio, with an expert team of paediatric cardiac intensivists that take care of children of all age groups before and after surgery.

The Heart Centre of Excellence is projected to treat up to 250 paediatric surgical cases per year, over the next 5 years, growing from the current 150 surgical cases per year, cementing a bold vision to transform children’s health regionally.
