
Dubai: The Opus Turns off Its Lights in a Memorial Gesture to the Late Zaha Hadid
Dubai, UAE, 4 April 2022: In commemoration of the late Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, Omniyat Real Estate Group turned off the lights of its urban icon 'The Opus' in the heart of Business Bay, in appreciation and honor of its designer, who passed away on March 31, 2016.
The first and only building designed by the late Zaha Hadid in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, 'The Opus' has become one of the most famous architectural icons internationally, and the only project in the world that Hadid has creatively implemented its internal and external engineering designs. Unfortunately, Hadid passed away at the age of 65 due to a heart attack that prevented her from seeing the opening of her architectural masterpiece, 'The Opus'.
The Iraqi-British architect, Zaha Hadid, has always been the focus of international architectural and engineering circles for her daring designs, often described as coming from the future.
One of the most famous architects of her generation, Hadid received several international honors and titles, most notably the Order of the British Empire, and the Japanese Imperial Medal. She was the first women to receive the Pritzker Prize in Architecture, which is equivalent to the Nobel Prize for architects.
Omniyat Group has collaborated with Zaha Hadid to design the project since 2006 to make 'The Opus' an engineering masterpiece belonging to the future in the city of future, Dubai. The building was designed to look like a hollow cube forming two towers linked by creative borders from the bottom and top in a streamlined style that allows viewing the building's exterior design from inside, making it a unique and unmatched architectural icon.
The two parts are connected by a four-height atrium at ground level and by a 38-meter-wide, three-story asymmetrical bridge set at an altitude of 71 meters. The building consists of 20 floors above ground and 7 floors underground.
The lifestyle in 'The Opus' is based on a concept created by Omniyat Group to combine the luxury of living, business, residence, dining and entertainment experiences in a unique incubator. The building features luxury apartments and offices, as well as the first ‘ME by Melia’ hotel in the Middle East, ME Dubai hotel, which is operated by Melia Hotels International, one of the world’s leading hoteliers with more than 350 hotels in 39 countries.
