Dubai, August 5, 2022:  Hotpack Global, the leading manufacturer of disposable food packaging products in the Middle East, organised a desert clean-up drive as a part of its “Fill for Future” initiative. This sustainability initiative is undertaken by the Hotpack Happiness Project, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the company.

The goal of the #fillforfuture clean-up drive, which was organised in association with “Mission Abate”, was to remove hazardous plastic waste from a region located in the Sajja Industrial Area.  The event saw participation from over 120 volunteers and included families, school children, Hotpack staff, and other volunteers from Unique Friends of Kerala (UFK) who came together to lend a hand to clean up the plastic waste in the area.
Commenting on the Fill for Future initiative, Mr. Abdul Jebbar P.B., Group Managing Director of Hotpack Global, said, “The overall goal of this initiative is to inculcate the value of sustainability within all of us. Land pollution and plastic waste are major environmental concerns and if they are not addressed appropriately, they can lead to severe consequences for human and animal health.”

“At Hotpack, we understand the utility of plastic in our everyday lives better than anyone else and take measures to minimize waste and maximize recycling and reuse of plastic as much as possible. However, we also acknowledge the damaging effect that plastic waste has on the environment. This is why we believe the Fill for Future initiative is important because we need to educate consumers on sustainable waste management practices and promote reuse,” he added.
Speaking on the clean-up drive, he further stated, “I am glad that so many young people and parents with their kids take charge in cleaning up the environment. I am thankful to all the people that volunteered for taking charge during the drive and cleaning up the entire area of plastic waste in only an hour.”
In light of the recent ban on single-use plastic by the UAE government, Abdul Jebbar has reiterated Hotpack’s commitment to sustainability. He said, “It is good policy to limit the presence of single-use plastics in the environment and it is also encouraging to see that the government is enforcing a ban on other alternatives as well that pose an even greater environmental risk than plastic. However, these bans are not the final solution. Although this ban will combat plastic pollution to a certain extent unless there is greater awareness, incentives and mechanisms for consumers to reuse and responsibly dispose of plastic products, the threat of plastic waste will not be addressed.”

In keeping with the company’s commitment to sustainable development, Abdul Jebbar has also stated that Hotpack is prepared with various sustainable alternatives. These include paper bags, recyclable plastic bags, and a variety of mono-material that can be classified as Biodegradable, Compostable, or recyclable. He also confirmed that Hotpack is actively investing in research and development (R & D) to minimize its ecological footprint and that the majority of Hotpack products fall in the sustainable category.

The desert clean-up drive was organised by the Hotpack Happiness Project in collaboration with UFK. Fill for Future is also associated with Bee'ah and 89.4 Tamil FM.
