Dubai, UAE, 18 February 2025: In collaboration with Zakhraf for Arts, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library hosted a workshop entitled “Arabic Calligraphy: The Eloquence of Symbols and the Icon of Form”, led by Emirati calligrapher Mohammad Altamimi. The workshop focused on Ruq’ah script, one of the most widely used and celebrated Arabic calligraphy styles. Organising this workshop aligns with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library’s commitment to preserving Arabic calligraphy and fostering its appreciation among new generations.

Over the course of two days, the workshop explored the history and origins of Arabic calligraphy, the influential calligraphy schools that shaped the art, the contributions of renowned Arab calligraphers, and the roots of Ruq’ah script. Participants were given the opportunity to practise writing in Ruq’ah script, allowing them to refine their skills and deepen their understanding of the script’s structure and rules.

With a remarkable turnout, the workshop attracted a diverse group of Arabic calligraphy enthusiasts. The event provided an interactive platform that combined both theoretical learning and hands-on practice, giving attendees an enriching experience. Participants expressed their gratitude to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library for organising such events and praised its ongoing efforts to promote cultural awareness and foster interest in arts and literature, especially Arabic calligraphy, which remains a vital part of Arab identity.

Since its inception, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has placed a strong emphasis on Arabic calligraphy, recognising it as an essential element of Arab and Islamic cultural heritage. In line with this focus, the library has developed an integrated programme dedicated to supporting and preserving the art of Arabic calligraphy through workshops, events, and educational initiatives.

To attend upcoming sessions and engage with authors and creators, visit the library’s official website at www.mbrl.ae and stay connected through its social media platforms.
