Equestrian sports at its highest level in stunning settings; these are the two pillars of the Longines Global Champions Tour. The 12th and final leg of this amazing series took place in Doha and marked the end of a successful tour that started in May in Madrid. The Al Shaqab Equestrian Center, a world class equestrian facility, welcomed the best riders of the world to compete in exciting competitions. The official watch of the event was a sparkling model from Longines DolceVita Collection. Since its launch in 1997, this line has been the subject of fascination with its characteristic rectangular cases and its incomparable elegance. Winning the hearts of women all around the world, these models are dedicated to women who want to add a zest of DolceVita to their own daily life and are an invitation to discover the irresistible Italian way of life.
One highlight of the event was the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Doha, run in two rounds with a jump off. Scott Brash (United Kingdom) won this competition on Hello Sanctos. Doha was also the final stage of the 2013 Longines Global Champions Tour and saw the victory of Scott Brash in the overall ranking with 203 points. With 194 points, Christian Ahlmann (Germany) arrived second and Laura Kraut (USA) third with 187 points. Scott Brash, Christian Ahlmann and Laura Kraut received watches from the hands of the President of Longines, Mr. Walter Von Känel who commented: “it was a tremendously exciting final and a fitting test of precision, talent and determination! Congratulations to all the winners for displaying such great strength and spirit and to all the participants for putting up such a brilliant fight.”
Longines' experience in equestrian sport dates all the way back to 1878 with a chronograph engraved with a jockey and his horse on the back of its case. These watches were very popular among jockeys and horse lovers and were used by sports judges in New York as early as 1886 to time performances to the second. As of 1912, Longines partnered with show-jumping events and today its famous winged hourglass logo is as strong a presence as ever at the world's leading and most prestigious equestrian sports events - from show jumping to horse racing and endurance racing.
Longines has been based at Saint-Imier in Switzerland since 1832. Its watchmaking expertise reflects a strong devotion to tradition, elegance and performance. Longines has generations of experience as official timekeeper of world championships and as partner of international sports federation. Known for the elegance of its timepieces, Longines is a member of the Swatch Group Ltd, the World's leading manufacturer of horological products. With the winged hourglass as its emblem, the brand has outlets in over 130 countries.
